Fourth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening

Adam was in the mood to just hang out, after working at Wonders of the World. So he made some popcorn and took a seat on the couch, trying to find something worth watching.

Oh, look. An episode of Abaranger was on. Adam boggled a lot less this time around, but there was still a little bit of staring as the opening credits began.

"Hey," Jim said. "Faile, right?"

Faile nodded. "And you are Jim. Are you still a vampire?" she asked.

"Only when Mel's around," Jim said. "But don't tell her I said that. How've you been?"

Remembering Mel's reaction made her grin. "If I see her, I won't mention it. I've been... having trouble acclimating, to be honest."

"Thanks. And really?" Jim asked. She seemed friendly enough for a girl who seemed to spend most of their first meeting ready to kill him. "Why's that?"

"Primarily because I am still thinking too much about home," she said.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Jim said.

After signing up for the kissing booth at the Homecoming Carnival, Jim was feeling like he should probably try to arrange something else for the dance itself. Something in terms of a date. Not with Pam because he'd really failed on that path before and he didn't want to try it again. Faile was kind of cute and wasn't about to kill him for being undead, so he made a decision.

"You know what might help with that?"

"What?" Faile asked curiously.

"Dances. They're a great distraction. Are you going to Homecoming?" Jim asked.

"I only just learned about Homecoming from Hoshi so I haven't had time to even think about it."

"Then you don't have a date," Jim said. Relative to his luck, this was a fantastic start. "Want to go with me?"

Faile took a moment to think about it. She had been keeping to herself too much lately. Attending a school event might be good for her.

"What exactly is involved with this dance?" she asked Jim.

"You get together, dress up, mingle, and maybe, you know, dance, if you're not too opposed to it. It'll be fun," Jim said, trying to convince both of them. But he said it with enough confidence that maybe he would be successful.

"When is Homecoming?" she asked.

"Friday," Jim said wondering where the vampire icon came from in the last comment. "Come on, it'll be good to get your mind on your fellow students looking silly on the dance floor."

"Alright, I'll go," Faile said finally.

"Great," Jim said. "I'll pick you up Friday night."

"Alright," she said. "I'm in 202."

"Just down the hall from me," Jim noted. "That's convenient."

Faile smiled. "No excuse about getting lost if you're late then."

"Exactly," Jim said. "Okay, well, I guess I'll see you then. It'll be fun."
