[Friday Afternoon: Fourth floor Common Room]

Claire had acquired a knight. She hadn't meant to, but she'd been sitting on the couch watching TV and he had ventured into her hair, apparently deciding it looked like a likely place to find a Grail.

Now she was trying to untangle a tiny panicking horse from of her ponytail while its rider kept trying to cut her fingers off. It was annoying.

Another wee knight came galloping in, followed by a grey cat, followed by an amused Dean.

"No actual killing and eating," he said, speaking to both knight and cat.

Claire looked up at the entrance, just in time to be stabbed deeply in the palm of her hand.

"Ow," she said, shaking the hand as it healed. "What the hell is with these things?"

"Fandom weirdness," Dean said, watching as the knight he'd followed in suddenly turned and charged Hunter who danced aside and then tried to pounce on it. "Stuff like this happens every now and then. Like the time my rock 'em sock 'em robot game came to life. Hunter had a ball. Usually only lasts a day, week at most."

Claire winced as she pulled the knight off its horse by grabbing its shoulders between her finger and thumb. It writhed and slashed at her fingers, leaving little red lines for a second at a time.

"Your dad's class hasn't covered little tiny crusaders yet," she remarked, putting it down carefully on the arm of the couach so she could focus on the horse in her hair.

"I'm not sure I'd classify these guys as an invasion," Dean said thoughtfully. "Though I suppose they could be."

It was a lot easier to get the horse out without the knight interfering, though it did start scaling down again to try and get its horseback.

"Guess it depends if they think this place is the Holy Land?" Claire offered, with a grin.

Dean snickered. "Suppose that makes Hunter the equivalent of the dragon?"

Snickering herself, Claire finally managed to get the horse out of her hair, and set it down on the couch, where its rider started to chase it around in circles in order to remount.

"He doesn't breathe fire, does he?"

Dean's eyes lit up. "Wouldn't it be cool if he did?"

"Right up until he got a cold," Claire pointed out. "And you could forget sleeping in when he wanted breakfast."

"He's got a dish of food out all the time," Dean said absently. "I could totally train him to breathe fire on command and take him with me to salt and burns. My own little furry flamethrower."

"Because cats are so easy to train," Claire said dryly. "What's salt and burns?"

"Way you lay a ghost to rest," Dean explained. "You salt and burn the earthly remains."

Jenny paused in the doorway to the common room to turn around and tell the tiny knight and his wee horsie that were following her, "Well, come along, then."

Claire glanced over, having by now de-horsed her hair, and grinned.

"You've made a pet out of one?"

"I think he thinks I'm his queen," Jenny said with a shrug. "Little guy was trying to bow earlier. Stupid name."

"Name?" Claire asked. "Jenny?"

"Jennifer," Jenny explained. "It's the modern form of Guinevere." At the last word, the weetiny knight thrust his weetiny sword into the air in a weetiny salute. "Also, I was wearing my tiara," Jenny admitted.

"Oh," Claire said, nodding. "Well, if you're going to wear it all the time you're going to have to face the consequences."

"True," Jenny sighed. "Power, responsibility, all that noise. What've you been up to, roomie?"

Claire shrugged.

"Class. Reading. Trying to figure out if I know anyone to set Peter up with. What about you?"

Jenny made a face. "Trying to convince Midnighter and Apollo they don't really need to come for Parents' Weekend, mostly. It's not working. I think they think it's funny. It's hard to tell sometimes with Midnighter."

Claire shook her head, sighing.

"Sometimes people have funny ideas about what's funny."

"Yeah, well, Midnighter thinks severed heads are funny. And Roseanne. There's no accounting for taste.

"How can he watch that?"
