Second floor common room, Monday afternoon

Jim had an experiment to conduct. He settled into the common room and turned on the History Channel. It seemed to be Titanic Day or something because everything they were showing was about the Titanic. That was weird.

It also had nothing to do with his experiment. He sat back, watched Modern Marvels, and wondered how he was going to work vole skeletons into conversation.

"They're even smaller in winged rhinos."

"Which only means that they can be louder, but they still can't speak."

"Why don't you believe in the determination of winged rhinos?"

"Biologically impossible," she replied.

"Some people might say that winged flight is biologically impossible for a rhino, but it manages that," Jim said.

"Sure, a regular rhino. But a winged rhino is specially built to fly."

"And to speak with a jaunty British accent," Jim said.

"Sure, if it was capable of speech."

"Which it is. British speech. Jaunty British speech."

"No, it's not. Maybe fictional winged rhinos."

"Which is the only kind of winged rhino there is."

Pam stared at him in horror.

"Prove me wrong."

"Fine," Pam said, settling against the couch, arms crossed stubbornly.

"You should draw a children's book about the winged rhino," Jim said randomly.

"It would instantly make children hate them," she replied, sighing.

"I could help and make sure it's kid friendly."

"It's not like I'd try to repel children," she added with a little frown.

"I know and I still don't believe that no kids like you. But just in case, I can offer my services as a child-substitute to make sure."

"No kids like me at all. Ever," she said, dropping her head against his shoulder all woefully. "But sure, if you want to make sure. Might as well use a test audience at the correct maturity level."

"Exactly!" Jim said, resting his head on hers. "I'm serious about the book, though. You could tell a story, package it with cool art, maybe show off to the principal by making her kid love it."
