The gym [Tuesday evening]

Luke was feeling a little penned in, so he trotted down to the gym and got to work on the punching bag.

For a guy who didn't look like someone who'd enjoy a fight, he certainly knew what he was doing.

Ino grinned at him, pausing halfway through a stretch, "Nope! Not unless you mind me here, because really, I interrupted you."

"Not at all!" Luke said quickly. "If I wanted to be alone, I would've faced the cold outside."

"I considered the roof," she admitted, "I don't really like training inside, but I don't feel like chancing a cold tonight."

"I spent six months learning in a swamp, so I understand the instinct," Luke replied.

[intraspective]

"In a swamp?" Blink. "Like, actually living there?" She supposed it would be a good place for training, but ugh. Swamp.

"Not my choice," Luke said, making a face, "at all. There were bugs big enough to fly around on, I swear." He shrugged. "But I come from the desert. Humidity isn't exactly my friend."

That made Ino laugh, "Is it anyone's friend? 'Cause it sure isn't one of mine and I don't come from a desert. And not by choice? Were you out training on orders then?"

Luke nodded. "Kind of a referral?" he said, pretty sure that "my dead master told me about him" would come off a little creepy.

Just a little creepy, yeah. She slipped into a basic taijutsu stance and nodded, "Well, can't say more training is ever a bad thing. Kinda sucks that it was in a swamp though. Seriously."

"If I never have to lift a mildew-covered rock with my mind again it'll be too soon," Luke said, looking with interest at her stance.

"With your mind?" Ino asked curiously, as she forced herself to go slowly through the steps of the move, "That's so cool. I wish I could do something like that, but my talents with the mind don't swing that way."

Luke mimicked her movements exactly. "It took a lot of practice," he said, "and unlearning what I'd learned."

Ino grinned at his copying and went through another move at a faster pace. Just to see. "Everything takes practice, though unlearning doesn't sound like much fun. Life'd get pretty boring if it was all easy."

Luke grinned back and repeated what she'd done again. "I had the thought stuck in my head that bigger things would be harder to lift. They're not."

"They're not? So, like, what they weigh doesn't matter at all? How does that make sense, please?" And another move, this time at her regular speed. "How much can you lift?" She asked, "Like, could you lift me?" Not that she weighed much really.

Luke beamed at her and repeated her motion exactly. Fast learner.

"Sure," he said. "I can lift starships, if I have to. I don't do it for fun or anything."

"... starship? Is that really just like what it sounds like?"

She tilted her head at him, "How long did it take you to learn to pick things up so quickly?"

"I didn't really have a choice," Luke said, looking a little embarrassed. "My teacher gave me my first lessons on how to be a Jedi in the back of a cargo hold, then died a few days later. The rest I picked up in six months in a swamp. There wasn't time to learn slowly."
