School Grounds, Wednesday afternoon

After the two boys were handwavily gremlin bit earlier in Chris' room, Jack Johnny and Ennis Chris headed outdoors to get to work and do what need's doin' to gather the herd and keep 'em secure on Crackback Mountain.

It was just that Johnny was a bit confused and glancin' over at Chris told him that the ranch hand was pretty much in the same boat.

"Ah, hell, Chris, I don't be seein' them heffer's 'round, do you? And the good Lord strike me dead if this here be Crackback Mountain. I'll be a yankee sumbitch if these here hills be called mountains."

Hands on hips, he glared at the ground.

"You thinkin' real hard over there or are you just as confused as I am?"

[ooc: Chris and Johnny have been, with permission, gremlin bit that was handwavily done. Welcome to Brokeback Mountain, Fandom style. Woot! Feel free to notice, gander, or just plain wtf at the boys.]

"I don't either," Chris realized, taking a few deep whiffs of the air. "How the hell did we end up here? Wherever here is."

Chris nodded and pulled a crumpled pack of cigarettes from the pocket of his impossibly tight jeans.

Where the cigarettes, jeans and hats came from was anyone's guess.

He slid the matchbook out of the pack and handed it over to Johnny. "It is warm," he agreed. "I reckon it'll be nice camping out tonight."

Chris lit himself a cigarette before shoving the pack back in his pocket. "Been a while since we got to do that," he agreed, smirking a little at the memories.

"Well, I reckon if we can't find those heffers, we may as well take some time to enjoy ourselves 'fore we head back and face the music 'bout losin' the herd," Chris said. "Maybe there's a decent honky-tonk in this town."

Chris took a long drag on his cigarette and shook his head. "Dunno, Johnny," he said, exhaling. "Don't much feel like gettin' into a brawl tonight."

"Just coz I have things I'd rather be doin' than savin' your ass from a bunch of closed-minded cowboys?"

Chris smirked. "I reckon I do."

"Yeah, you know how it is," Chris said with a shrug. "How about your wife? Her daddy still driving you nuts?"

"How many times we been over this, Johnny? I ain't gonna risk either of lives like that."

"It's better than bein' dead," Chris said.

"I know it ain't right, Johnny," Chris said. "But it's the way it is."

"I ain't gonna leave my family," Chris said.

"That's fine," Chris said. "And I'm sure we can find plenty o'ways to stay warm."
