School Grounds, Wednesday afternoon

After the two boys were handwavily gremlin bit earlier in Chris' room, Jack Johnny and Ennis Chris headed outdoors to get to work and do what need's doin' to gather the herd and keep 'em secure on Crackback Mountain.

It was just that Johnny was a bit confused and glancin' over at Chris told him that the ranch hand was pretty much in the same boat.

"Ah, hell, Chris, I don't be seein' them heffer's 'round, do you? And the good Lord strike me dead if this here be Crackback Mountain. I'll be a yankee sumbitch if these here hills be called mountains."

Hands on hips, he glared at the ground.

"You thinkin' real hard over there or are you just as confused as I am?"

"Nice outfit," Wyatt smirked. "Savannah dressed up as a cowgirl?"

Johnny wasn't sure he appreciated that smirk. "Be mighty hard to dress up Georgia," he said, narrowing his eyes. Cause Savannah was in Georgia. Right?

"Why are you two acting so weird?" Wyatt said. "Is this some sort of class project?"

"Weird? Where you from, boy?" Johnny asked, looking this city slicker over. "Hell no. We been done in the school room long ago. We're roundin' up the heffers as soon as we find 'em."

"There aren't any cows on the island," Wyatt said. "Teal Deer, yes. Cows, not so much."

"Island?" Johnny looked dumbly around before he looked back at the boy. "You got them failin' eyes? We're on Crackback Mountain, boy."

"Um, you see a mountain around here?" Wyatt said, waving his arm. "This is Fandom. On an island."

"Well, not exactly. We was just talkin' about how this mountain seemed more a hill than anythin'." Johnny scratched his neck. "Don't matter; we's here and we aim to get the job done."

"Which is herding cows?" Wyatt said, shaking his head. Well, he supposed he might as well get a picture to commemorate the occasion, and possibly blackmail Johnny with later. He pulled out his cell phone and took a picture of Johnny.

"Right, got us each a family to support," he said, looking over at Chris and his impossibly tight jeans before returning his attention to the city bloke. "Hey! What the hell is that?"

"You've never seen a camera phone before?" Wyatt said, taking a shot of Chris and his impossibly tight jeans as well. Suitable for a holiday card, he figured with a grin.

"I know what a phone is and I know what a camera is, but that thing you're holdin' there, that's beyond my compra... compre... well that just beats all I ever seen," he admitted with a frown.

"So what do you do to past time while you're up there herding cattle?" Wyatt asked, fishing for more blackmail information.

Johnny glanced over at Chris then ducked his head, kicking at the ground with the toe of his cowboy boot. "Herdin' cattle is hard work; lasts from sun up to sunset."

Wyatt totally noticed the look. "So what do you do at night?" he asked. "Sit around the campfire, get to know each other. . . ."

"...talk about our wife and kids," he said quickly.

Wyatt snickered. "So, do you grow beards while you're up there, then?"

"Nah, there's a lake. Been in it a time or two to bathe and shave. Ain't no hardship." His gaze flickered back over at Chris, recountin' the memories.

"You two, ah, close?" Wyatt asked.

"We're partners, if that's what you're askin'," Johnny said, tryin' to be evasive and not realizin' how that sounded.

"Good for you," Wyatt said, biting his tongue to keep from laughing. "You shouldn't have to hide where your affections lie."

"My affections? Don't think I quite catch your meanin'." said Johnny, rubbing the back of his neck.

"I'm sorry," Wyatt said innocently. "I thought you said Chris was your boyfriend."

"I never said no such thing," Johnny stammered, looking over at Chris. "Men ain't no boyfriends. That's just wrong."

"Yeah, I prefer the term 'lover' myself," Wyatt said, nodding. "Boyfriend seems so high school."
