School Grounds, Wednesday afternoon

After the two boys were handwavily gremlin bit earlier in Chris' room, Jack Johnny and Ennis Chris headed outdoors to get to work and do what need's doin' to gather the herd and keep 'em secure on Crackback Mountain.

It was just that Johnny was a bit confused and glancin' over at Chris told him that the ranch hand was pretty much in the same boat.

"Ah, hell, Chris, I don't be seein' them heffer's 'round, do you? And the good Lord strike me dead if this here be Crackback Mountain. I'll be a yankee sumbitch if these here hills be called mountains."

Hands on hips, he glared at the ground.

"You thinkin' real hard over there or are you just as confused as I am?"

[ooc: Chris and Johnny have been, with permission, gremlin bit that was handwavily done. Welcome to Brokeback Mountain, Fandom style. Woot! Feel free to notice, gander, or just plain wtf at the boys.]

"Go out in the preserve and start talking," Anders said, grinning -- and filming. "You'll round 'em up easy."

Anders cast a thoughtful look at him, then at Chris, then back again. "Does yours?"

It had been a wild guess, but hello there payoff. "Workin', huh?" echoed Anders, with an unmistakable emphasis on the word. "Nothing to be ashamed of there, y'know."

"Yeah, well." Anders patted his Glider. "I went for the shinier model I don't have to clean up after."

"It's a horse from the future," Anders informed him in as solemn a tone as he could manage -- which he thought he pulled off pretty well. "Don't need to feed it, don't need to clean out the stable."

Anders grinned and held his free hand up, then got to his feet and rode the Glider in a slow circle around Johnny. "I'm not the one doing the pokin' . . ."

"Noooooooooooooothin'," drawled Anders, picking up a tiny bit of speed for a second circuit.

And snickering to himself. Oh, this made him feel so much better about everything.

"Right, right, heading down the mountain." Anders slowed the Glider to a halt and cast a deliberate look around. "Because we're so frakking far from sea level here."

"Don't look at me." Anders was so going to milk their confusion for all it was worth. "I'm not demonstrating."

And wow, was that ever disturbing, and yet still completely filmable. "Must be nice to like your work so much . . ."

"Summer?" Anders gave him a 'bitch, are you for real' look. "What are you, working overtime now?"

"And I thought I was dense sometimes," Anders muttered under his breath, taking a moment to enjoy the fleeting sense of superiority. "I mean, why are you working a summer job in December?"
