The Dorm Stairwell, Monday Afternoon

Reno was antsy today. And antsy was not always the wisest state of being for Reno to remain in. He could try to drink it off, but drinking while he was feeling like this usually led to brawling, and he was trying to avoid being kicked off the island, here.

So he went with his other option- burn it off.

This was why Reno was running laps up and down the stairs of the dorms.

Arms crossing in front of his chest, the Turk leaned back against the railing and nodded.

"Sounds like a plan. Pretty sure I got some leftover everclear stashed in my dorm room."

Rikku tilted her head sympathetically. "Do you drink a lot? Is it, uh. 'Cause you're here and you don't want to be?"

"That's one of the reasons, I guess?" Reno was going to be as flippant about this as possible. "Drinkin' to be drunk is... just a thing."

It was totally only a thing. Really.

"I did that a couple times," she said with a shrug. "Just ... couldn't take it, so, I'm gonna drink until I stop feeling anything. Wasn't a really great idea. Got lectured for being stupid and all that."

"I don't typically have to worry about the lecture. I'm a big boy, my drinkin' is nobody else's business."

Stupid world that carded anyhow.

"My drinking doesn't get in the way of shit that needs to get done, so what does it matter?"

"It was Deadpool. So it wasn't the lame whole 'you shouldn't do this, young lady, It's Bad' but, you know, 'hey, I don't like picking you up and carrying you out of the bar 'cause you're laying on the floor, and alcohol poisoning is a stupid way to die, dumbass.'" She shrugged. "If it's 'cause you're upset, then it matters, because ... you know. It does."

"Yeah. I'm sure it does." Reno was still doing his damnedest to be nonchalant about this particular conversation. He didn't just flinch a little. See? He was just going to cover that by nod his head and shrug his shoulders and lean a little more deeply against the railing. "Never was the sort to hide in the booze. Just drink it."

Liar, liar, hot like fire.

"Sometimes," Rikku said, with a shrug - carefully nonchalant - "it's easier to ... you know. Go talk to people. Let some of it out, instead of ... ignoring it and hoping it'll go away."

They were still talking about her, obviously. Why wouldn't they be?

Of course they were. Who else was there to talk about? Really.

"And when there's shit that just can't be said?"

Hypothetically. Of course.

"Even sitting with someone and not saying anything is better than just ... sitting by yourself," she said with a shrug. "If it's really 'can't.' 'Cause a lot of things look like 'can't' but they aren't."

"It's 'can't,' yo." ... So much for hypothetically. "Never gonna turn down some company, though."

"Room 308," she said again, with a faint smile. "Either way."

"308," he repeated again. "501, if..." He gave his shoulders a shrug and let his smirk creep over his lips again. It was a nice, safe smirk. "Whatever."

"If I'm being chased by rabid hyenas?" she asked, grinning. "Or I desperately need to smash someone's knee ASAP?"

"You go ahead and take your pick." He had to laugh a little. Had to. "Though you're gonna be disappointed if you're really lookin' for another go at my leg, yoto."

"Oh-ho?" She bounced on her toes. "You've studied my moves? I'm going down?"

He cocked his head to the side and pushed himself off of the wall with a nod of his head.

"You. Are goin' down." Smug? Him? Never.

"You wish," she grinned, squaring her shoulders. He wanted to bring it? It was on.

"Time and place," he said smoothly. "I'll bring the everclear, yoto."

"I'm so not drinking," she said, making a face. "When are you free?"

"Whenever," came the vague reply. "Not during class, but you know when two of the three are, anyhow. Last one's on Friday, so that's a while away."

Shrug.

"More booze for me, anyhow."

"Yeah," she said, with less enthusiasm than he had. "I guess it is."

... Right. Maybe talking about the booze wasn't the happiest topic they had, here.

"How's Wednesday, again? I'll leave the everclear behind and kick your ass without it, instead."

[the_merriest]

"Wednesday again," she said, bouncing on her toes. She wasn't his mom, here, he could drink if he felt like it. "Drunk or sober, either way I'll kick your butt."

"My butt and I aren't too sure about that," he chuckled. "We'll have to see, hm?"
