The Dorm Stairwell, Monday Afternoon

Reno was antsy today. And antsy was not always the wisest state of being for Reno to remain in. He could try to drink it off, but drinking while he was feeling like this usually led to brawling, and he was trying to avoid being kicked off the island, here.

So he went with his other option- burn it off.

This was why Reno was running laps up and down the stairs of the dorms.

Well... this was interesting. Cassandra stood up to balance herself on one of the rails as she watched Reno run.

With her head canted at a slight angle, she offered a small wave as he approached.

Oop, chick on the railing. This called for Reno hitting the emergency brakes to wave hello.

Note how he was making a conscious effort not to pant. His workout had barely begun, after all.

"Yo," he said. Oh so cool. "Frequent these stairs often?"

... Duh, Reno.

Cassandra nodded. "Get fewer stares than if you come in through the window."

"Nothin' wrong with the window if that's your sort of thing," Reno said. It was entirely possible that he was full of total bull. But then, he might have been serious, too. Hard to say.

She leaned forward slightly and smirked just a bit. "That's what I said." Some people were harder than others to read, but she was pretty sure that with some time she could figure Reno out.

Maybe.

Ah, yes, running. Jenny didn't do running. The cigarettes might have had something to do with that. The part where she could generally just fry whatever it was to a smoking crisp or amble away through a Door might have, too. Certainly it wasn't about image, and if you believed that she had some oceanfront property going cheap.

"Where's the sodding fire?" she asked running boy as he approached.

"No fire, yo." Reno came to a stop and glanced at the girl on the stairway. He didn't bother jogging in place. Jogging was for losers who cared about their health, or whatever. Reno was just burning off steam. "Felt like running. Got a problem with that?"

"Guess not," Jenny said dubiously on an exhale of smoke. "S'just not my thing. But you, hey, whatever makes you happy." She gestured with her cigarette and added, "Love the hair."

"It's hair," Reno said with a shrug. "Does what hair does, yo."

Reno loved his hair. But he was being casual, here.

"Do you regularily run in stairwells?" Ino asked, watching his progress for a moment, "Or is a this new thing?" There might have been a bit of laughter in her voice.

Hah! A familiar face!

Reno skid to a halt and grinned.

"Yo, Ino." Pause. "Wait. Forget I said that. See, I forgot your name, wanna try to kick the shit outta me?"

[intraspective]

"That'd mean I'd have to get mad at you for 'forgetting' my name," She said with a laugh, "I'm not allowed to get mad until midnight tonight." Ino wrinkled her nose. "I made a bet I could be perfectly happy for four days."

Reno leaned forward slightly, a smirk toying at his lips.

"Then I better not make it difficult for you, is that what you're sayin'?"

Sokka was wandering the dorm, looking for a full common room, or maybe just something interesting in the snack machines. And there appeared to be someone on the stairs.

The other day, Reno had seemed majorly cool. Right now, he just looked like a dork. Which is why Sokka was staring.

"You all right?"

"Burnin' off steam, yo." Reno stopped running again. He had to, in order to lounge about and resume looking cool. "One of those days."

Really, nothing had happened today. But even Reno had his snits.

"Saturday," Sokka replied, in sympathy. "I know what you mean! ...But, what's with the stairs? Around here, most people blow off steam by beating the snot out of each other in the gym."

"Stairs give a good workout, yo." He shrugged at that. "Building I used to work in had a huge freakin' flight of them through the back door. Sparring came after the climb up' em, when you were already rank with sweat or whatever. Made it look like you were actually puttin' forth the effort when you were done kickin' the crap outta whoever was willin' to scrap, yo."

Sulley saw someone running the stairs. He decided to join in. "Why are we running?"

"Burnin' off steam," Reno replied, not noticing who was asking him what. Oooh, stairway. "Was either this, or hittin' up Carit-aah!"

Okay, there, he finally caught a glimpse of his jogging partner.

And he stopped running and gawked.

"Bein' big an' blue normal around here, too?" He'd seen a lot of messed-up things in his life. He was gonna get over this. Real soon. Any moment now. Really.

Sulley stopped running a few paces later. He was getting used to scaring people without even trying now. "Not around here, but where I come from, being different is normal. That made more sense in my head."

The redhead had to lean forward for a moment to inspect the... talking thingie that had been jogging with him. Looked like a summon or something. Interesting.

"What brings you to a place like this, then?"

Rikku leaned over the railing and raised an eyebrow.

"You know you're weird, right?"

Reno offered her a grin as he stopped and nodded a casual hello.

"Didn't know which room was yours. Couldn't go knocking to ask if you wanted to spar again, yo."

Reno and pretty girls. It was a thing.

"You never asked," she said lightly, bouncing on her toes. "Much easier ways to get your butt kicked around here than to run laps until I notice you, y'know."

"I'm startin' to notice." He chuckled and shook his head a little. "So, you gonna tell me what room you're in so I can get my ass kicked on a more regular basis, then?"
