Salle [afternoon]

Talking to Sam in the clinic yesterday had only increased Luke's never-helpful "bad feeling," so after checking in on Sam's pet as promised, trying to get Vladdie to come out from under the bed (not happening), and ignoring the irritated glares of Yoda the turtle, Luke trotted down to the salle with his lightsaber and a couple of training remotes.

He slapped a "Caution: Live Fire. Knock Before Entering" sign on the door and then kicked four remotes to life and began to practice, immersing himself in the Force.

Cassandra was having a Bad Day. This meant that she was more than a bit distracted. Not that she paid all that much attention to written notices in the first place. She was slowly learning to read, and might even have been able to puzzle out what the sign on the door meant if she'd tried, but she still wasn't used to looking for that sort of thing.

When she reached the salle, intending to exercise until she was too tired to worry about anything, she just pushed the door open and stepped inside.

A ricocheted laser blast hit a few inches above her head, and Luke stared at her in shock, waving the remotes off with his hand. "Are you completely stupid?" he screeched. "I could've taken out an eye!"

It was a sign of her distraction that Cassandra didn't drop into a crouch until after said laser blast impacted. She blinked in confusion at Luke, "What?"

He stomped over to the door, and pointed at the sign. "Knock first," he said icily.

"Didn't see it," she mumbled before turning to look at the sign.

She stared at it intently for a moment, her mouth hesitantly forming the words. "That is this 'knock'?" she asked rapping on the door in demonstration, "And not this one?" she mimed drawing a bow.

"Which one makes more sense with 'live fire'?" Luke asked acerbically.

Oh, that was a questoin she knew the answer to. "This one," she said as she knocked on the door again.

Luke ran his free hand through his hair and sighed. "You wanted to use the salle too, I take it."

He still wasn't quite ready to let it go. "Really, really badly."

"I thought..." she blinked, thinking about the words, "Anyone could use it?" She was clearly missing why the whole ignoring the sign thing was bothering him. Sometimes she was a bit dense.

Inara had headed to the salle with the vague idea of getting some fencing practice in, but stopped when she saw the sign on the doors. Hopefully whomever was in there wouldn't mind sharing, and if they did, well, she could still watch.

She raised a hand and knocked.

Luke shut down the remotes and stretched out with the Force. "Come on in, Inara!" he called.

She came in and carefully closed the door behind her, smiling at him and hoping he'd share. "That's quite a gift you have, Luke. Very useful."

"It doesn't work on phone calls," he said with a grin, "but doors I've got handled. Hi!"

"Am I interrupting?" She wandered over to the weapons and started looking through them for the one she'd used before. "I could just watch, if I am, and if it won't make you too self-conscious."

"Oh, I was almost finished," Luke said, "at least with remote training. Would you like a sparring partner?"

She grinned. "Sure. I haven't embarrassed myself in front of you for a while."

"It's not embarrassing," Luke said. "I just had a slightly more pressing reason to get good fast."

Lightsaber in hand, Jaina saw the sign and knew immediately who would be in there. Rather than knocking, she reached out in the Force just enough to let him know she was there before opening the door slightly.

Luke had paused the remotes and smiled to see her. "Hi!"

"Looks like we had the same idea," she said, eyeing the remotes, and counting them. "Four?"

Luke nodded. "I think it might be time to add another one," he said with a slightly excited smile. "I haven't gotten shot in the ass in a couple of sessions."

Jaina was still working her way up to being comfortable with three. She always knew she wouldn't get up to his level, but he was even better now in her time. "Mind if I watch?" she asked.

"Not at all," Luke said, trotting back to the center of the mat and taking a few deep breaths before kicking the remotes back to life.

He was good.

Jaina definitely wasn't going to dispute that. She took a seat out of the way, more studying than watching for entertainment, though she really did have to wonder what a sparring match between him and Anakin had to look like.

After a few moments, Luke forgot that he was being watched at all as he became more involved in trying to anticipate and block the bolts that were flying all around him. All four remotes were turned up to their highest settings and they buzzed and dodged as he turned their fire back against them, trying to trigger their off settings.
