Flag Football Practice: Gym, Sunday Noon

John was feeling pretty good and had decided to run practice in a more traditional manner this week. He got to the gym and got out the footballs and flags before setting up cones around the perimeter of the gym.

"Okay, guys. Today it's time to get back to basics. After last week's, uh, interesting practice, I think we need to do some more focused work on passing and catching. We'll start with some good old fashioned laps around the gym and go from there!" John was far too excited at the prospect of running laps and was grinning rather a lot.

[ETA: Always said Sunday, ALWAYS]

It was a good throw, actually, even though Johnny had to take a few steps forward.

"Good throw," he called out to Sokka, grinning. But now it was his turn. "You might want to back up for this." Johnny hiked his arm back and threw the ball. It was high, it was long, and it was a neat spiral, headed straight for Sokka. Or you know, in the general vicinity.

Grinning, Sokka took a few steps forward, just to be contrary. ... Which, of course, was a mistake. He started running backwards, and then leapt for the ball, tumbling head over heels and ending up in a crumpled heap. "I got it!" he announced, one arm rising triumphantly from the tangle of limbs with the ball in hand.

Johnny watched in amazement, first of all that Sokka would actually step forward, but everything that followed after that just held him in stunned silence until he heard him yell that he had it.

"Yeah, great catch!" He was nothing if not encouraging, right?

Sokka lobbed the ball back towards Johnny, but since he was still laying on the ground, it only went a few yards. Then he stood up and dusted himself off. "It was, wasn't it?"

The ball didn't come close to Johnny, not lobbed from the ground the way it was. "Yeah, it was," he agreed, smiling over Sokka's last attempt.
