The Roof, Monday night

After talking to Hoshi, Annette was feeling pretty low. Snubbing Jack like she has; her date with Billy that didn't go so very well because of the movie choice and her lack of enthusiasm, plus Dick hasn't talked to her at all. Not even tried. Even a teeny tiny bit. And then A.J. and her big fat mouth... well, it was time for a visit to the roof for much pondering. So she was there, just standing, not at all herself as she gazed out across the school grounds and beyond.

She had to smile. But she also had to ask, "But would you do it?"

A.J. bit his lip for a moment, looking at her in a moment of decision, before just reaching over, lightly, for her hand, to pull her in, with a bit of a twist of that his front was against her back and his chin could rest a little on her head while his arms wrapped around his and he said, "Mmm. Maybe. I'll think about it."

Annette laughed lightly in surprise because she was not expecting that kind of response to her question. Her arms held over his own and she said with a teasing lilt to her voice, "I totally meant naked."

"Well," A.J. said, simply, slightly loftily, "you didn't specify."

"I'm specifying now," Annette said bravely.

"That," A.J. said, glad he was holding Annette like this so she couldn't see him blushing even more, "might require more consideration than previously indicated, then..."

Which he figured was a much more polite way of saying that he didn't think his girlfriend would appreciate that all too much, especially considering that even she hadn't gotten to do that. Close, but not entirely.

Okay, blush getting worse. Great....

Annette was very glad she didn't know his thoughts but she did know and understand what he was telling her. She just didn't like it.

She shifted, wiggled, turned around completely in his arms to peer up at him. "You could kiss me then. There is no nakedness involved in that."

....So much for that whole respect thing he'd asked for. Still, knowing her mood, A.J. tried not to show that he was feeling like the whole thing was a complete waste of words, gave her a light smile, and kissed her forehead.

"There."

Man! That was just... that was all kinds of just fatherly.

"Fine. I was just playing around anyway..." She let go of him and stepped way back from him, turning so he couldn't see the expression on her face. She stood at the edge of the roof again. "I won't try to tempt you anymore; it wasn't fair I guess."

It was like making it to the top of a mountain and, before you even got to look around, landsliding all the way down to the bottom, he swore.

"Would it help," he offered congenially, hopefully, "if I said I totally would if it weren't for the whole girlfriend thing?"

"Yeah, it would," she told him, but that was just the whole issue behind her not wanting to be around him. It was too hard. She wanted him and he would want her if he didn't have a girlfriend.

"Life is totally unfair." Screw it. Annette pulled out her prescription bottle, popped the lid, and put two in her hand...

"Annette, seriously, don't eve--"

A.J.'s eye-rolling complaint was cut short when he saw what she was doing. "Annette!" He made a reach for her hand. "What are--?"

"A.J.! Stop it!" She fumbled with the bottle as he reached for her hand and the bottle went flying, scattering the small white pills over the floor of the roof.

"Dammit!" Annette went to her knees and began to try and pick them all up. "Dammit!"

And A.J. was right there down beside her, trying to get to them before she did. "Annette! What are these?"

"They're mine, A.J., that's what they are," she told him, trying to gather as many as she could. They were antidepressants, and the bottle clearly labeled the drug name, even though he might not know it. "Where's the bottle? Do you have it? Give it to me, A.J."

"No," A.J. said, scrambling to his feet and holding the bottle out away from her. "Why are you taking..." He took a moment to read of the label, "anyway?"

"It's none of your concern," she said, getting to her feet also, reaching out to try and grab it back from him. It was just Xanax, Annette didn't think it was all that big of deal even though, yeah, it was. "Give it to me!"

"None of my con--!" Totally not letting her have it. He was taller than her, too. "Annette! How can you say that? You got all pissy about something and then proceeded to pop a pill! That's definitely my concern!"

She looked up at him, glaring, trying not to cry. "I've had them... been taking them, it doesn't matter. That's my bottle, not yours. And I wasn't pissy! I just need to have them, A.J., come on, please..." if she didn't take them, she got a headache, a bad headache.

"Crap... I got some here..." the ones that she managed to get before he got the rest of them. Reaching into her pocket, she grabbed two and went to put them in her mouth.

"Annette!" A.J. was devastated that he could be fast enough to stop her. "How...Annette! How long have you been taking these?"

"What does that matter? It doesn't matter, A.J.," she said, her voice having gone soft. Feeling dejected, Annette looked down at the ground and held her hand out towards him. "Just give me my bottle and forget this whole incident. Okay?"

"No," A.J took a step back. "No way. You know I can't do that. It does matter, Annette; it matters a lot!"

She shook her head. "What are you going to do, A.J.? Tell on me?" She took a step forward. "Give me that. Now."

A.J. held the bottle out behind him a little more with his next step back. "Maybe I will," he countered. "Maybe I should."

"No you won't," she countered back. "You and I both know it. Now I'm asking nicely; give it back. This is no concern of yours and involves no one but myself." Annette took another step forward, and another. She would reach out to snatch it from him if she could.
