3rd Floor Common Room: Saturday afternoon [3-29-08]

Lana had pulled out paper and crayons and markers and scissors and glue. She'd even found some stickers and glitter. Now she was busily coloring away at the coffee table. There were cartoons on the TV and she was humming happily, tongue sticking out as she concentrated on what she was doing.

Sometime later, after Chris had wandered off, Summer had gone to the common room to find out who else might be wee. She smiled when she spotted a little girl coloring. "Hi."

Lana smiled up at her. "Hi! Do you want to color, too? I have glitter!"

"Well, since you have glitter, how can I resist?" Summer said, kneeling so she was closer to her level. "What are you drawing?"

"This one is a horse," Lana said, holding out a carefully done scribble. "And this one is a sign to a'mind the boys to be quiet so they're not so scary." It was another lovely scribble.

"That's a very nice horse," Summer praised. "And that's definitely a good sign to make. The boys need to be reminded of that all the time."

Lana nodded solemnly. "Yes, because I get all scaredy and then I want to hide away and Aunt Nell says I need to be braver."

"You can be pretty brave sometimes, Lana," Summer said, figuring out it was her since she mentioned her Aunt Nell. "A lot braver than some silly boys."

"I don't want to be a superhero or an airplane," Lana said firmly. "I just want to be me."

"Nothing wrong with being just you," Summer said. "Especially when you draw such pretty pictures."

Lana beamed up at her. "I'll draw one just for you," she said. "Because you're so pretty and so nice."

"Awww," Summer grinned. "You're a smart kid, too."

"Aunt Nell says I'm too smart for my own good sometimes," Lana said innocently as she scribbled away.

"My dad says that to me sometimes," Summer added.

Lana nodded. "You must be very smart."

"There!" She presented the picture to Summer. "Just special for you."

"That's beautiful, Lana," Summer said after looking at it. "I'm gonna hang it on my wall."

Lana beamed. "Really?"

"Totally," Summer confirmed.

"I love you," Lana said spontaneously, wrapping her arms around Summer.

Summer hugged Lana back tight. That had to be the cutest thing ever. Any feelings of emo Summer had before? Pretty much non-existent now.

"Do you want to draw a picture with me?" Lana asked. "There's lots of stuff and I'm very good at sharing."

Summer sat down at the table. "Sure. I'll draw Pancakes."

"I had pancakes for breakfast!" Lana said happily.

"They're good. My bunny even likes them," Summer explained. "That's how he got that name."

"You have a bunny?" Lana said excitedly. "I love bunnies!"

"Pancakes loves kids, so you'll have to visit him," Summer decided.
