The Lawn, Wednesday Afternoon

It was a nice day and there were finals looming. Naturally this meant John was attempting to nap in the sunshine, his French phrase book laying open on his chest.

Effective studying strategy? Probably not. But at least he was trying.

"What do you mean by 'these things'?" she wondered.

I don't know, those things," he shrugged.

"I've always thought we did pretty well at those things." Whatever they were. Working relationship equaled pretty well.

He smiled over at her. "We forgot the hello thing again." And he'd just recently sworn to himself he wouldn't.

"Well, you were all the way down here," she explained, leaning over to kiss him regardless.

"So far away," he agreed, leaning in to kiss her.

She stayed close even after ending the kiss. "We're great at fixing that, though."

He had no complaints there. "The fix is always good," he replied, reaching a hand to her face.

"Ever consider that maybe we just aim for the fix?" she asked, stretching her legs out to make herself more comfortable.

"No, but that's not a half bad thought."

"Maybe it's subconscious," she mused.

"So my subconscious enjoys kissing you?" he clarified. "I can see that."

"Your subconscious is very smart."

"I think it works out while I'm sleeping." Since his brain did so much work while he was awake.

"That might explain the sleep talking and pirate love," she nodded.

"If my subconscious enjoys you so much, it should really stop the fling with the pirate," he pointed out.

"True," she said, nodding thoughtfully. "But maybe I'm just too much for it."

"Not possible," he decided, resting his hand on the back of her neck.

"You have really good answers, you know that?" And it was probably a good thing they were outside in public.

"I think you've mentioned it before," he replied.

"It bears repeating," she said, moving the hand she wasn't leaning on to rest it on his forearm.

"I don't mind hearing it," not that he was paying much attention to things that weren't the feel of her skin against his hand or her hand on his forearm. He didn't remember having a good reason for being out in public anymore.

"Then you have really good answers," she said teasingly, lightly stroking her fingers over his skin.

"You're distracting me from whatever the question was," he said, massaging his fingers gently along her neck in response.

"I'm distracting you?" she asked, pressing back into his hand a little.
