Andromeda campfire, Saturday afternoon

Yesterday had left Jaina with more serious thoughts than she wanted to have, so she spent her morning trying out different scenarios in the flight shed. She would have been mentally thanking Anakin for the key but she was still a little upset over that boyfriend-threatening thing, so there went that.

When she got back, she decided since it wasn't really raining rain, there was no harm in starting a campfire. Besides, the candy rain meant s'mores might be more interesting, so she brought graham crackers out from the cabin, too. Even a year later, the Turtles had made their impression.

She handed over the graham cracker and marshmallow. "We've been enterprising today."

"Thanks," Dick said, setting the s'more up with his sky egg. "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When it gives you chocolate, make s'mores. That makes sense."

"Yeah, and it's not just chocolate. Those don't work as well, though," Jaina admitted.

"You haven't tried gummy bear s'mores, have you?" Dick asked, dreading the answer.

"No. But Cal was on the lookout for gummy worms for them," she said.

"That would be a horrible mistake and I want no part in it," Dick declared.

"You don't have to. I also don't recommend anything taffylike," she advised. "It's almost good, but not quite. So how are things?"

"Things are good," Dick said. "I think I'm finally getting used to this stuff. You'll notice that I haven't flinched at the candy rain yet."

"It definitely gets easier," Jaina said, looking up at the sky. "It'll be strange to go back to real life full time."

Dick thought briefly of his real life and figured that it would be an easier transition than most people would expect. "Probably. But I think I'll be ready for it at that point."

"Why do you think that?" she wondered.

"I grew up around elephants and bearded ladies," Dick said. "That kind of thing makes future adjustments much easier."

"I'm guessing that's abnormal?" Yeah, she was pretty sure about it, but she'd been in part raised by a droid and a Wookiee, so.

"Different world. That's right," Dick said. "Yeah, not too many people grow up in a traveling circus. Although that might not be the case here, of course."

"Really?" Jaina said. "That definitely is something I haven't heard before here. Is that where you just came from?"

"Yeah, my parents were acrobats and when I was old enough I ended up joining the act," Dick said.

"Okay, I have to say, this is one of the more impressive stories," she admitted.

"Sometime I'll tell you about how my story gets even more impressive," Dick said. "Let's just say that I'm used to pretty drastic change by now."

"That'll happen," she said. "So yeah, this sort of thing has to be like nothing then."

"It's still weird and makes me question my sanity, but it's a pretty smooth adjustment overall," Dick said.

"Don't bother questioning. You really will drive yourself crazy that way," she advised.

"I have a naturally inquisitive mind," Dick said. "As long as I can keep the answer to a simple 'no, I'm still not nuts, try again later,' I think I'll be okay."
