The genet dashed into the common room, Gladys following, and leapt onto the couch, the TV, then bounced back. "You Have Too Much Energy," she told it, holding out a hand. It leapt into it and started sharpening its claws and trilling.

That meant it was hungry (Gladys had not let it eat any of the tiny monkeys) so she started opening cupboards, looking for something to feed it. The genet immediately ran inside and started kicking things out. "That Is Not Helpful."

It ignored her, pounced on a cereal box, dragged it to the middle of the room, and started disembowelling it. "Your Manners Need Some Work."

"I'm Friday. What's your talent?" He sat down on his pillow. "It's not being lazy."

"Flying," Jaina answered immediately. "I think laziness is more useful on a day to day basis, though." Here, anyway.

"Have to ask, it being here and all, flying as in planes or flying as in capes?"

"Capes are not for flying, they're for fashion accessories," she said. "Spaceships, actually. Though it could be done while wearing a cape." Hi, Lando.

"Spaceships," Friday repeated. "Jaina, I know we've only just met, but I can't help but ask a personal question, otherwise it's going to bug me to no end and I won't pay attention to the rest of the conversation." He paused a beat for dramatic effect and to give her the briefest of chances to hit him. "Are you an alien?"

She couldn't hit him when they'd only just met, that would be rude. She was, however, suppressing the urge to stick her tongue out at him in that beat. "I'm a hundred percent human," she said. "I just lack citizenship on this planet."

"Oh, okay then. I didn't want to be in the middle of a sentence and scream like a girl when your tentacle popped out of your back to brush aside your hair or something. It wouldn't make for a very good first impression."

Jaina had to laugh. "Now I really wish I had tentacles," she said, purposely flipping her hair over her shoulder and being glad it was long enough to do that again.
