The Roof; Sunday Evening.

Cal had never seen anything like this sky before in his life; he'd be damned if he didn't appreciate it. From the height of the dormitory's rooftop, the view was even better, and it also added a bit of consolation in the theory that, perhaps, if anything did erupt, he was at a bit of a high ground, even if he was pretty sure lava could manage to do quite a bit of damage to the base of a building. Maybe they were far away enough that it wouldn't matter, anyway.

But, God, it was gorgeous. It certainly did wonders to pull Cal out of the reverie that had been holding him back all day about his father. About how the last time he'd seen Milton was when they broke the news about Cal's...condition, how he'd never said a word to him after that, because he'd run away and, by the time he got back, his father had died. He'd called Tessie, but the ensuing conversation was short, awkward, and left him overly thoughtful. Sitting on the roof now with a cigarette between his lips as he took in the electricity in the air, though, he started to feel a little better.

[[ it's a roof; of course it's open =D ]]

"It's a vice," Romeo said, mock-woefully. "If you do that, let me know and I would watch with you."

"I might have to work on that this week. We could have a bad movie night," Isabel said, already listing cliches in her head. "Although it'll have to be soon. I'm leaving at the end of the month."

"Time to head on to college?" Romeo asked sympathetically. "In that case, yes, we should do it before you go."

"Time to head back to Roswell to spend some time with my brothers before I head off to college," she clarified. "But either way, it means leaving. Still I think a movie night before I go is definitely possible."

"It's still leaving," Romeo had to agree, a little quietly. The graduates were going, one by one; he could not help but project a year into the future, when it would be his class, and when he would go ... where? "I wish you luck, either way, and even if we don't work out the movie night."

"Thank you Romeo," Isabel said quietly and sincerely. But she didn't want to let things get too serious. "Considering where I'm going? I need all the luck in the world. My college is in Vegas. So maybe with your luck? I can win big."

"My luck - " Romeo started to say, meaning to denigrate the idea such a thing could be good for anyone, but something in her eyes topped him. There was a volcano threatening them; it could hurt nothing for him to be optimistic.

"If my luck would help you, then, I'm glad to have given it to you."

After everything she'd had to deal with over the last few years? And the fact that it had all worked out in the end, Isabel was very much an optimist.

"Your luck is also much less likely to get me arrested then my own particular skills," she pointed out, waving her hand and sending some gravel on the roof skittering away. "The casino control commission tends to frown on manipulating the dice."

He grinned at her. "Then you'd just need to get good enough that they never suspected you were cheating."

"The problem with that is even if they can't figure out how you're doing it? They'll still twig to the fact that something's up." Not that she was speaking from personal experience. But Kyle had filled her in on Max and Michael's adventures during the road trip to Vegas that had happened her first spring in Fandom. "I think it's because they have the statistics down to a science."
