Torn Toga Party! [Friday evening/night]

The deck was completed, and ready to be used.

The workers had cleared out just in time for the food and drink to be set out, and the coloured lights to be strung along the roof.

There was music, and space to dance on the lawn, and a cool breeze to cut through the heat of the day.

[ooc: In honour of Tiny Toons being released on DVD today, there are random containers of mango juice lying about. Also, any drinks may become mango juice. If a character drinks and says 'Ah! Mango juice!' an inflatable palm tree will fall on their head. Open to all ~~once~~ as the OCD is up!

"Kind of? I mean, look at these," she snickered, looking at her chest. "I'll never have a figure like this. And my hair, or her hair, it's so very pretty and curly, and her skin and dark eyes. I feel... so lovely. Inara is a very lucky girl."

Cal snorted a little, hand moving to cover his eyes as it went into a slightly embarrassed laugh at Amber's attention to Inara's...details. "I've been trying not to notice," he said. "But she gets to be you, then, too, right? So you both win."

Amber frowned at that, or more like a pout. "She's going to feel so slighted."

Cal couldn't help noting that this Inara chick had a really pretty pout.

"...Why would she feel slighted?" he asked, honestly. "She gets to be her all the time, and, as far as people to be for a chance, you're not bad at all."

Oh, that made her feel better.

"Really? You totally gawked at me when I first approached you, Cal. Guys appreciate looks first, above anything else." And wow, or oops, Amber's accent wasn't so profound.

"You said yourself that she was gorgeous!" Cal pointed out, a little annoyed that she'd say something like that when he was trying (keyword: trying) to compliment her. "And, okay, yeah, they notice looks first, maybe, but after that?"

He would have said more, but he realized that he was hardly the best candidate to be speaking for all guys.

Alright, she did say it, didn't she? Amber gave him a lovely Inara smile. "After that what?"

That smile was not fair. Cal faltered a little, eyes slipping away, somewhere off to the side. "After that," he said, "they don't matter as much. Personality does. I mean, who good is looking at someone who's pretty all the time when they're dull as hell to talk to?"

Her smile only grew and she knew that she would love Cal forever for what he just said. "I guess I'm not too dull, am I? I do have a sock fetish."

Cal snorted; his eyes were still lazily taking in the view of the new deck. "I could have gone my whole life without knowing about your sock fetish, Amber," he said, "and been absolutely fine."

"But now you're curious aren't you?" she teased. "You want to take a peek in my drawer and marvel at all the colors, the types, the fuzziness..." she reached out to poke his arm gently, and commented in a more serious tone, "As much as I find this body beautiful and enjoy the looks I've recieved tonight, I wouldn't trade in myself for anything."

The poke (which Cal, playfully, leaned away from as it hit to make the suggestion that it was actually strong enough to knock him over a little), the comment, had Cal's eyes drifting back, with a smile. "Good," he said. "I wouldn't want you trading yourself for anything, either."

He couldn't even imagine himself being best friends with someone who looked like Inara. She was gorgeous, yeah, but, in Cal's mind, that meant unapproachable. The Obscure Object wasn't perfect; she was flawed. Too freckled, and her thighs were kind of thick, too. But he loved those imperfections.

Amber bounced and boy did she feel it. Yes, she normally felt it, but this bounce was oh my gosh so much more... bouncy. "I would hug you to death right now if you were that type which I know you're not so that's okay, but you've just made me feel wonderful."

Cal was smart enough to know not to mention that, after all that bouncing, he would have been completely okay with a hug right now. Instead, he just stuck with his smile, slightly soften, as he said, "Don't know how I managed that, but good."

He was being modest, of course he was.

"Does it feel awkward, talking to me like this? Because I assumed you wanted to discuss the story? We can leave, if you'd rather..."

...Talking to Amber about the story while she looked like that was not a good idea. He shook his head. "I'd rather wait, if you don't mind," he said, with an apologetic look. "But I can still walk you back like last time if you'd like..."

She smiled, relieved. "To be honest? I wouldn't want to talk to you seriously looking like this either. Somehow, I don't think the concentration would be there. And..." she shrugged. "I'm not drinking; you don't need to unless you just want to."

"It's not like it's out of my way, Amber," Cal reminded her.

"Yes, I understand that," she told him as she sashayed back and forth. She was wearing a pretty, lovely long gown. "I would love to freak my ma out about now."

Cal wondered if the shashaying was really necessary.

Cal wondered if he could bring himself to talk to this Inara girl.

"What do you think she'd say?"

Amber was taking adavantage of the hips.

"She would smack me and demand to know who poisoned her beer."

Cal's eyes widened a little.

"She'd smack you?"

"Probably," she answered, remembering getting smacked with that burnt beer bottled-hand. "Ma can get... emotionally temperamental at times."

Cal frowned a little at that, biting his lip slightly. "That...kind of sucks..."

"It's no big deal. Usually she just yanks me, but she loves me, so I understand."
