Adorable Panda Campfire, Sunday Night

Ella was more than slightly fond of the cabins and campfires; they reminded her of home, and it saddened her a little to know they'd be moving back to the dorms soon.

Determined to enjoy the time she had, she kindled a fire despite the warmth of the night and spread out a blanket on the ground nearby, then sprawled out to stare at the flames.

She absently hoped no one would trip over her.

"Having fun?" Dick asked, walking over to the blanket.

It took a second for Ella to pull back from her thoughts, but she smiled up at Dick when she did. "It's peaceful," she told him. "I like just watching the flames."

She patted the blanket next to her. "Want to lie down with me?"

"Of course," Dick said, taking the spot next to her. Joking, he said,"I never knew you were such a pyro."

"Oh, totally," Ella teased back. "If one of the cabins burns down, that would probably be me."

"You realize that if one of the cabins burn down, I'm going to tell the cops you said that. I respect the law," Dick said.

Ella made a face at him. "I would have to look very innocent and tell them you were simply insane, of course."

"Well, they'd probably believe you once I told them about growing up with elephants. But I'd be okay with it since I did my civic duty," Dick said.

"But you could thwart that by telling them I talked about ogres and giants," Ella pointed out. "They'd believe in elephants, first. But I appreciate your respect for the law."

"Well, we are talking about the authorities here. I think they'd believe the ogres before the elephants," Dick said.

When Cal stepped outside of his own cabin for a much needed nicotine fix after being a hyena for a week, he intended on just sticking close to the door. The glow of another fire was surprisingly intriguing, though, and he found himself wondering if, instead of hiding out, it might not actually hurt to reassert the fact that he was back to normal. He considered it a while, sucking on the end of his cigarette before, a little awkwardly back in his own limbs, striding over to see who else the fire might have been attracting.

Ella noticed Cal's feet first, then looked up to see the rest of him. "Hello! It's a nice night."

"You could say that again," Cal muttered around his cigarette, looking at the fire a moment before dragging it away from his lips and letting a trail of smoke into the air, blowing it forward a little as if trying to get it to mingle with the smoke from the campfire. He assumed that his reasons were probably a bit different from Ella's, though he could be wrong.

"How's the view from down there?"

"Mesmerizing," Ella decided. "It's hard to stop looking at the fire."

"How's the view from up there?"

Cal took a moment to consider it more theatrically than he actually was. "Not bad. Gotta admit, I miss this height."

Ella leaned her chin back. "I'm trying to decide if you're taller than I am," she informed Cal. "When we're standing, that is. And you miss it? Did you lose it for a bit?"

Cal grinned a little. "I'm pretty sure I am," he said. "Taller. Could be wrong, but I won't make you get up to check. And, well..." He hesitated before continuing, not exactly wanting to own up to his last week's adventures. "Okay, you know the thing where people will turn into stuff around here randomly?"

"A lot of men are," Ella admitted. "And thank you for not making us stand back to back."

She nodded. "Right, like when half the island turned into small ponies."

There was a slight shudder at remembering that one too. "Right. Exactly. Only on a more individual level. I got struck with it this week, so it's good to not be on all fours."

"Hey Cal," Dick said from his spot. "How're you tonight?"

"All things considered?" Cal asked, tilting a head thoughtfully at Dick. "Not bad. Yourself?"

"I can't complain too much," Dick said. "At least I found my way to the campfire without getting lost."

"That's usually a good thing, yeah," Cal said with a nod; his recollection of the fog was a little blurry, but he was trying to forget as much of last week as possible.

"And it's the last week of workshops as of tomorrow," Dick said. "And then it's like a real summer break again."

"Until real classes start up, anyway," Cal pointed out. "You started...when again? Have you taken a real school semester here before?"

"I came in during the summer," Dick said. "I have no idea what to expect."

He also wasn't absolutely sure he was going to be back even though his player was, but he wasn't going to mention that for now.
