4th Floor Common Room: Sunday evening [8-24-08]

Lana was trying very hard not to think about this being her last weekend in Fandom. So, once she'd moved her things back to her room, she'd headed out to the common room and settled herself down to watch the last of the Olympics. There was popcorn and fruit at present and she was seriously considering making some spaghetti later.

Peter poked his head into the common room. "Tell me I haven't missed the Closing Ceremonies."

"Not yet," she said with a smile. "Come sit. I think I'm going to make spaghetti later so it will be good to have company."

"Lemme know if I can help," Peter said. He took a seat. "I can boil water with the best of 'em. So any guesses as to what might happen? I've been avoiding the news so I wouldn't get spoiled."

"You're in charge of the water boiling then," Lana said with a smile. "And no, I have no idea what's going to happen. Looking forward to it though."

"Let's make predictions," Peter said. "Like at least a thousand mentions of Michael Phelps. Maybe in the first hour alone."

"And at least ten mentions of how the Chinese gymnasts have to be underage," she said with a smile.

"What're the odds about bad British jokes?" Peter asked. "Like maybe attempts at cockney slang in honor of 2012?"

"I think they're more likely to try snooty upper class accents and throw in comments about Prince Charles and the boys."

"And some mention of tea and/or crumpets," Peter agreed.

"Maybe clotted cream and scones," she said with a grin.

"I'm going to guess that, other than the gymnasts, we won't hear much mention of controversies," Peter said.

"No, this did seem to be a relatively controversy free Olympics, which was nice," Lana admitted.

"I liked when atheletes were so good you could get behind them no matter what country they were from," Peter said. "That's always fun."

"Yeah, me too," Lana said with a smile. "It's nice not having all the political controversy."

"Or doping controversy," Peter said.

"Yes! I don't think I've heard about that even once!" Lana said with a grin. "I hadn't even thought about it."

"Apparently there were some folks who were, but they got caught before the games started," Peter said. "At least I think that's all there was."

"Good," Lana said firmly. "Maybe people are finally starting to get the message."

"If I remember right they had insane checks too," Peter said. "Like before and after every event you had to give a blood sample, or something. It was enough that you almost wonder how the athletes didn't pass out from the blood loss."

"Especially Michael Phelps," Lana said with a grin. "There, I started off the litany."

"Very nice," Peter said. "The degree of difficulty was high but you managed to make it look effortless."

"And I kept my toes pointed the entire time. No faults for me!"

"Now can you do it starting out with standing on your head?" Peter asked.

Lana laughed and slipped off the couch and up into a perfect handstand. "Michael Phelps, Michael Phelps, Michael Phelps." Then she walked over and out of the handstand and back onto her feet.

"Well?"

Peter stood up and applauded, since how could you not? "Bravo! Seriously."
