Third Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

It had definitely been an... interesting couple of days for Firekeeper since her rather unexpected arrival. Much of Sunday and Monday had been spent exploring and hunting (they'd avoided the strangely-colored deer, however), and of course sleeping, because as the old wolf proverb went: "hunt when hungry, sleep when not, for hunger always returns."

Now, though, Firekeeper and Blind Seer were lounging on the couch in the large room that seemed to belong to no one in particular, staring at the big black box that was apparently the centerpiece of the room and wondering at its purpose.

"Am I? What's a ventriloquist?" Dor asked looking confused. "You mean throwing my voice? No, I make things talk."

"Isn't that what throwing your voice is?"

"Oh, it's not my voice," Dor said with a grin. "I actually make things talk using magic. It's my talent."

He might be putting her on and he might not; Francine figured she'd give him the benefit of the doubt. "So you made the lamp make fun of you?"

"The inanimate tend to be a little rude," Dor replied. "You get used to it after a while."

Francine glanced at the nearest chair, imagining what it'd be like if every time she sat down one one... Gah. "I think I'm glad I don't have that talent."

"It's not so bad," Dor replied. After all it was probably going to make him King one day. Not that he was looking forward to that.

"I can usually get information about what's going on that other people may not be privy to. And it helped me find a great bakery yesterday."

"Ooh, Jeff's? That place is great. Mmmm, doughnuts."

"They have good oats too. Or at least that's what my roommate says."

"....Oats?"

"He's a unicorn," Dor explained. "He seemed to like it."

"Your roommate's a unicorn? Like, all the time?"

"Well I don't think he's a shape shifter if that's what you mean," Dor replied. "He's just a unicorn."

"Oh." It was kind of frightening how few months here it took for Francine's reaction to something like that to be "Oh."

"I just asked because a bunch of us just woke up as ponies once this summer. And then the next day everything was normal again."

"Really? Ponies?" Dor asked looking curious. "Did you all drink a potion or something?"

Francine shook her head. "Nope! Just went to sleep people and woke up ponies. Which didn't do the beds a lot of good."

"Huh," Dor said tilting his head in thought. "What was it like?"

"Weird." Duh. "I could only see--" Francine made air traffic control motions with her fingers, pointing to the sides of her head. "--Like that. Not right in front of my face."

Dor took a moment or two to try that out just using his peripheral vision.

"Okay. That would drive me nuts."

Francine nodded. "But I could fly! That made up for a lot."

"Flying is always fun," Dor agreed with an emphatic nod. "Best way to travel ever."
