Third Floor Common Room: Wednesday Afternoon

Anyone entering the common room at this time will notice that Dor is having an intensive conversation with the microwave.

"So... it's not magic?" Dor asked looking somewhat confused.

"What's the problem?" the microwave responded. "It's pretty simple. I have magnetron tube that sends out microwave radiation to heat water and other polarized molecules within food."

Dor just started at the microwave not understanding one word that it said.

"Okay. Fine. It's kind of like magic," the microwave said with a weary sigh.

Dor's befuddled expression showed that he still didn't understand what was going on.

"Hang out and spend the money," Lee suggested. "Is it your parents money?"

"From when my dad died," Claire said, tone flat to discourage sympathy. "My brothers got the business, I got money for school."

All Lee did was nod once and then said, "Hang out and spend it in college. You're away from authorities and rich. Can't get much better than that."

"That's a thought," Claire had to acknowledge, even though it would mean losing her ability to drive her mother nuts by not going. "What about you, how'd flight school end up being your plan?"

"That would be my father again," he said and rolled his eyes. "He's in the military and he's influential. I'm the oldest son and together, that means I should go into the family business."

That sounded just a little bit familiar. "Yeah, my dad did that to my oldest brother," Claire said. "He took off for a really long time. It makes you wonder if they want sons or clones."

"Took off?" Lee asked, not at all getting an idea. "Ran away?"

Claire held up a hand and waggled it back and forth. "Kind of? Nate's way older, so I don't really remember it. He ended up running a supermarket in Seattle."

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Huh." Lee shrugged. "I'd be frakking terrible at running a supermarket but I could get used to running away. I don't even wanna go back most days."

[identity profile] swipedthatfoot.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't think it was Nate's first choice or anything," Claire said. "Just ... not a funeral home." She squinted at him. "Do you have to?"

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's a polite request," he said and rolled his eyes. "Which means, yeah, I have to. That doesn't mean I'm going to."

[identity profile] swipedthatfoot.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good luck," Claire told him, meaning it. "How long do you have? I'm a senior."

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Same for me," he said. "So, I have a few months but not as long as I want. I'm thinking of doing the 'if he wants me, he's going to have to come get me' deal."

[identity profile] swipedthatfoot.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you think he would take you up on it?" Claire asked.

[identity profile] stupid-toasters.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes," he said and made a face. "But not right away. On his own time. I'm not that important."
