Third Floor Common Room: Wednesday Afternoon

Anyone entering the common room at this time will notice that Dor is having an intensive conversation with the microwave.

"So... it's not magic?" Dor asked looking somewhat confused.

"What's the problem?" the microwave responded. "It's pretty simple. I have magnetron tube that sends out microwave radiation to heat water and other polarized molecules within food."

Dor just started at the microwave not understanding one word that it said.

"Okay. Fine. It's kind of like magic," the microwave said with a weary sigh.

Dor's befuddled expression showed that he still didn't understand what was going on.

"You know, I don't know the answer to that," he said and it was a good question. "This planet's solar system has a few planets in it. But there's no space exploration to them. It's kind of a stunted program."

Dor seemed a little baffled by that. "So they have more than just a moon?" he asked. "This place may be stranger than I thought."

[*punches "post reply" for the 5th time!*]

"Yep," he said and shook his head. "They have more than one planet too. They're not all moons. I think this planet has one moon for this planet. The other planets have their own moons."

"Wow."

Dor looked floored by this revelation more than the idea of alternate realities.

"So if the space program here is-"

Dor tried to remember the word that was used. "Stunted? How did you get here?"

"Well, the Colonies-- that's where I'm from -- doesn't have such a stunted space program," he said. "We're in a completely different galaxy."

"Oh!" Dor said now getting it. "I see. So if you don't have magic then how did you get here?"

"My home's mastered intergalactic travel," he explained. "We have ships that can travel from galaxy to galaxy."

"How can you do that when there's no water?" Dor asked straight faced.

"Flying," Lee said after having to think a moment on what Dor actually meant. "We use spaceships. They fly in the air, in space. Kinda like birds."

Dor's mouth opened and formed a little "o" in understanding. "Okay. Well that make sense. I guess. Do you have a ship here?"

Lee winced and shook his head. "I wish. Frak, I wish. Nah. I got dropped off here but this place is too small to keep one."

"Still it sounds pretty amazing," Dor replied. "I've only flown on a carpet which is the only thing I can probably relate it to."

"Carpets fly?" That was a new one for Lee.

"Sure," Dor replied. "Well enchanted ones do. I borrowed one from Good Magician Humfrey to use while I'm here. Makes getting from one end of Xanth to another pretty quick."

"That's...a new one," he said, just vocalizing his thoughts. "Doesn't the weight become a problem?"

"Well it can fit about two people on it. I wouldn't try it with an ogre."

"Right." Lee just nodded at that. "No ogres. And you have one here?"

"I've got it up in my room," Dor nodded. "Interested in taking a spin around the island?"

"I haven't really gotten to fly since I got here," Lee said. "I'd love to give it a try, definitely."

"Let me know when," Dor offered. "I'd like to see how it performs here in Fandom."
