Second Floor Common Room - Early Saturday Afternoon

Harvey had a problem. He was hungry. You think that problem would be easy enough to solve by making food but he couldn't decide what he wanted. It was still early enough for breakfast and yet it could be considered lunch time too. He wanted eggs but he could also go for a sandwich. You would think he could just pick something and get on with it but for some reason he couldn't. He always sucked at making stupid little decisions like that.

So now he had a grilled cheese and scrambled eggs going on the stove at the same time. He figured he was hungry enough to eat both and if he wasn't, well, he figured someone else would want some. He sat himself up on the kitchen counter next to the stove, rolling his father's coin across his knuckles and waited for his food to finish cooking.

"Something smells good," Lee said, having gotten bored enough to wander down one floor. That plus food was good enough to make him stay.

"It's either the grilled cheese or the scrambled eggs," Harvey said, nodding towards the frying pans on the stove. "Or it could be both. I've never had the two put together but it doesn't seem like a totally gross idea."

"Grilled cheese and scrambled eggs?" Lee repeated, sniffing the air some more. "Whatever it is, it smells really frakking good. New chef slash student?"

"Just a new student. Grilled cheese and eggs are about as far as my culinary skills go," he said. Harvey stopped rolling the coin across his fingers in order to offer his hand to Lee. "Harvey Dent."

"Lee Adama," he said, taking the offered hand. "Nice to meet you. I can do grilled ham and cheese and french fries sometimes. If I'm having a good day. Other than that, I'm really good with the phone and ordering pizza."

Teddy waved at Lee. Because he was friendly, even to the non-food supplying non-newbies.

"Hey there!" Lee said, waving back. "Come for the free food or my company?"

Teddy paused for a moment, trying to come up with a good answer for that.

"Um, would you believe me if I said it was for you company?"

"No," he said and laughed. "Mostly because I live up one floor so there's no way you would have known I was here."

"Good food," Dick said conversationally to the guy he didn't recall meeting before.

"Very," he agreed. "I'm always a fan of free, good food."

"What about free, bad food?" Dick asked.

"Not so much a fan of free, bad food, no," Lee said with a shake of his head.

Since common rooms equaled food, Teddy found himself wandering on down to the one that had good smells coming out of it.

Oh. And to meet the new people. That too. Really.

"Hey!"

"Hey!" Harvey greeted back, waving the hand that wasn't holding the coin at the guy he didn't know. "Grilled cheese?"

Teddy perked up even more. "I would love one..." He should probably introduce himself to the person whom he was mooching off of.

"I'm Teddy."

"Harvey," he said, with a nod of his head. He had realized earlier in the week that if you made food in the common room, you should definitely make extra. He flipped the sandwich that was currently in the pan over. "Are you new here too?"

Laughing, Teddy shook his head. "I've been here for--" He blinked in surprise at the number. "--two years now."

The common room was full of people Dick hadn't actually met before. It was time for him to fix that. "Hey, Guy I Don't Know. How are you doing?"

"Hi... guy I've never met either," Teddy replied, grinning. "I'm good, and yourself?

"Very good. Even better now that I'm meeting some new people," Dick said. "I'm Dick Grayson."

Since he clearly hadn't had enough social interaction yesterday, Dick took a walk down the hall to the common room. "Good afternoon, everyone. Is there enough food to go around?"

"Should be. I've been making grilled cheese sandwiches since I got here," Harvey said as he slid another one out of a pan and onto a plate. "I think I'm becoming a bit of an expert."

He had given up on the scrambled eggs. It took too much effort and he was having a lazy Saturday.

"Thanks," Dick said, taking a sandwich. "You know, luring people with food really is the best way to get to know them around here. It seems to work every time."

"I've noticed. I needed to meet more people. I've been kind of lurking since I've gotten here," Harvey admitted. "In case it wasn't painfully obvious already, I'm new here."
