5th Floor Common Room, Tuesday evening

With Liir's help, the common room was transformed into a vivid party room. Purple streamers were hung, balloons in every color were tied around, some left loose to pop or kick like some people liked to do (not her, geeze), and HAPPY BIRTHDAY INO! was everywhere.

Music was going and Amber was adding finishing touches to the gift table; little shiny curly things in purple everywhere. Hopefully Ino liked purple. While she was doing that, Liir was busy in the kitchen, getting the food in order and her mouth was watering just smelling some of what he had cooked.

"Dude, ow, what happened to your arm?" Hurley asked.

"Someone took a shot at my shoulder over the weekend," Romeo explained. "I'm stuck with this until it heals more."

He tried to remember if he'd met the large fellow; he didn't think so. "I'm Romeo, by the way."

"Dude, you got shot?" Hurley said. "That's... okay, not really that weird, actually. I'm Hurley. I kinda wasn't here all weekend, so I guess I missed the... riot or gang stuff or whatever."

"It wasn't a riot," Romeo said, though he couldn't deny that gang stuff was close enough in his case. "Just ... a bunch of people who didn't like us very much, and wanted to take the island. You were lucky to have missed it."

"Duuuuude," Hurley said. "We were invaded?"

It was a sign of how long Romeo had been in Fandom that he had to think about that before answering. "I wouldn't call it invaded, exactly," he decided. "There weren't so terribly many of them, and most of the fighting was in a tournament or on their island. More an unfriendly social call."

"...that's not cool," Hurley said, amazingly not starting his statement with 'dude'. "So, uhh... you need a hand with the, like, food?"

Romeo looked grateful. "Not cool at all. I think if you take my cup over to that table, I can handle it from there and not block the food for anyone else."

Hurley reached and grabbed Romeo's cup. "No problem, dude. Always glad to help a guy out."

"Thank you," Romeo said, edging toward the side table. "You're a good help, Hurley."

"Gotta make my mom proud, right?" Hurley said with a chuckle. He walked over and set the cup down for the other guy. "You like on this floor? Or just, like, a friend of Ino's?"

"Do I get points if I say both?" he chuckled, pointing down the hall. "I live next door to Ino, and we're both right there. It's very convenient for the party."

Hurley smiled. "Sure dude, extra points. I'm, like, both too. Well, I mean, I'm kinda new so I guess it's a little early to say friend, but she's cool and we've talked and stuff."

"I've known her since ... shortly after I got here, in January," Romeo said, needing a moment to think about it. "It feels longer. This place is like that, and we had a bit of an adventure together." He wasn't going to start talking about creepy angels and 1899 Paris just yet. "Do you like it here so far?"

"Yeah, actually, a lot," Hurley said. "It's all... shiny and weird, but in a good way."

"Weird but in a good way," Romeo echoed. "When I first got here, I thought it was more peaceful than home. And it usually is, last weekend excepted."

"Oh yeah?" Hurley said. "Where you from?"

"Verona Beach," Romeo answered. "In my world it's a little south of Los Angeles, but I don't think it exists in some other worlds. Or at least, it's not on maps."

"Yeah, I'm from Santa Monica," Hurley said. "But I don't think I've heard of that place. Rough neighborhood, huh?"
