5th Floor Common Room, Tuesday evening

With Liir's help, the common room was transformed into a vivid party room. Purple streamers were hung, balloons in every color were tied around, some left loose to pop or kick like some people liked to do (not her, geeze), and HAPPY BIRTHDAY INO! was everywhere.

Music was going and Amber was adding finishing touches to the gift table; little shiny curly things in purple everywhere. Hopefully Ino liked purple. While she was doing that, Liir was busy in the kitchen, getting the food in order and her mouth was watering just smelling some of what he had cooked.

That'd be an Ino 'sneaking' over to him and to try and hug him. "Jan!"

"Ino!" Jan whickered, and hugged her back, curving his head over your shoulder, being careful of the stitches in his left shoulder and flank. "Happy day that you were born."

"Thank you," she said, smiling at him. "I'm so happy so many people made it."

"You have many friends," he agreed, then nosed her shoulder. "Which should not surprise you at all. How many years have you reached?"

"But they didn't have much time to prepare, and yet still made it," she rested her head carefully against his shoulder. "And I'm fifteen now."

[Evil work! Totally not a problem with slow!]

"You are ancient," he teased, whuffling her hair. "Or you would be among the unicorns. You would be an Elder, and all would seek your wisdom and guidance, not just me."

Ino laughed. "I don't know if I'd make a good Elder ever, Jan."

"Some day you will," he said, with unshakeable confidence. "Tell me about birthdays? What do you do at them? How do we celebrate?"

She thought it was sweet of him to say, but rather unlikely.

Ino wrinkled her nose cheerfully at him either way. "Well," she said, "birthday celebrations depend on the person. I'm a social person, so a big party like this? Is the perfect way to celebrate having lived another year. But there's no right or wrong way to celebrate--if someone wanted to just, say, have a quiet dinner with a few friends, or even just curl up and read for their birthday, that's totally okay too. It's just supposed to be a day where... they get to be happy, and things get to go their way."

Jan snorted in approval. "It is a noble idea, and a pleasant one." Then he flicked his eras forward, neck slightly arched, the unicorn equivalent of a grin. "Of course, it would be even better if every day could be like that."

That got a laugh. "It would be, yeah? But it never works out that way, so having a day where it's supposed to, despite everything, is nice."
