Third Floor Common Room - Monday Morning - 10/13

Liir could not stay in his room this morning.

Liir... had to do something normal, something mundane, something hot and greasy and familiar, and that was why he was in the common room kitchen doing a massive fry up for anyone who thought it worth the effort to creep out of their room.

Anyone who started conversations with anything other than 'this weekend' also got a brownie.

"So wasn't," she insisted, still giggling. "Really wasn't!"

"Was!"

He eyed her suspiciously.

"Will I have to do it again to prove it?"

She shook her head, laughing.

"No!" she insisted. "But you've gotta explain."

"Well, I had to give you some good excuse to laugh at me," he said with a chuckle of his own.

She stuck her tongue out at him. "Dork!"

He stuck his tongue out in reply but had nothing to say back.

She just laughed, taking up her toast again. "I do love you, you know that, yeah?"

He nodded, smiling warmly to her.

"I do. And you know the same?"

"I might have figured it out, yeah," she said, smiling.

"You always were the bright one," he said with a grin before going back to his cooking.

"Any plans for the week off?" he asked her.

Ino shuddered. "Be bored out of my skull while I'm not at work?"

He winced.

"Oh yes, no classes today. Well, that'll be irritating.

"I suppose I'll work on things. And try to get around talking to my father about matters."

Yes, he still hasn't told Fiyero he was going to die.

[intraspective]

"Breaks are boring 'less you've got plans," she said. "And I don't. So. Boring."

A beat.

"...you still haven't? Liir!"

"Things've..."

He breathed out.

"Things have been well. After this summer, I was just kind of enjoying that. And he was enjoying himself, honestly. He seems to have found a friend of sorts in the theatre director."

He ran his hands through his hair.

"Besides, how do you tell a man he's going to die if he leaves?"

"Well," Ino said, resting her head against the couch back. "Maybe start by telling him 'bout different universes? You don't know if he would. What if his time there is passing at the same rate as time is here? The situation back home would be different in that case, right?"

She glanced sideways at him. "You're making assumptions when you don't have enough information. He might not."

"The problem of it is what I know and what I don't know," he said with a sigh.

"I do know that the Wizard will want him dead, if not for association with my mother than for the fact that his status as a prince is a direct challenge to the Wizard's rule. I do know that finding my father is about as easy as finding a white horse in the Emerald City."

And by that, he meant extremely easy since most of the horses were colored to match the colors of the household.

"And what I don't know is the exact circumstances of what happened or when."

All the information that was simple enough and none of the information he needed.

That got a bit of a shrug. "True enough," she said. "But you don't know that he'll die when he goes back."

He looked over at Ino.

"I've got a good enough idea that I'd rather not risk it without more information," he said.

He shook his head.

"I'll... talk to him this week. He doesn't like to talk about other things when I'm upset, so since I'm well enough, he won't be able to deflect it again."

[intraspective]

"So go to his world," she suggested. "And get more information, or something."

A beat.

"Sounds like he's as bad as you for deflecting things."

"Probably where I got it from, if such things can be passed down so," he reflected with a crooked smile. "Elphaba was much more of a mind to charge right through, stomping and snatching until she was satisfied."

He breathed out.

"I'll take a trip then, see what I can find out."

He considered a certain exit he had made and how, with a broom, it could be just as much an entrance.

"After all, the trick to Southstairs isn't in getting in..."

And if there was information to be had about such dirty dealings, he had a feeling Southstairs would be the place to go. Shell had mentioned knowing his father's final fate, and that was where the man had his connections.

Ino eyed him.

"...by yourself?"

He was mental if he thought she was just going to meekly agree with that.

Uh-oh.

"I... could see if Trism might go with me? And I'd only go there as a last--"

Beat.

"You want to come, don't you?"

[intraspective]

"Right in one," she said tartly.

He thought about that for about a half a second before nodding.

"All right.

"But let me talk to my father first. He might have some information he'd overlooked when I bring up the seriousness of things.

"It might not be necessary at all. However, if I do go to investigate matters..."

He looked over at her.

"I promise I will bring you."

"Good boy," she said, relaxing slightly. "Back up is a good thing, seriously. And I can fly now too, so it's less hassle."
