Cheerleading Exhibition; The Gym; Saturday Afternoon [ 10/25 ]

It was time for the cheerleaders to go about and do their thing in showing all the family and friends of the student body their school spirit! The gym, of course, was decorated in blue and gold, with a giant, sparkly "GO GREMLINS" banner, and there was up-tempo, bass-thumping music spilling out of the speakers as the cheerleaders got read and the audience filed in.

"He can," she said with a nod.

"That's the important thing," he said quietly.

"And he cares for me a great deal," Eve said. "That's the other important thing."

Benicio looked at her and then nodded. "It is important that he cares for you. We'd have problems if he didn't."

Eve knew what kind of problems Benicio meant, so all she did was whimper slightly.

He smiled at her. "As long as he treats you well, then he has no need to worry."

"He treats me very well," she assured Benicio, partly because it was true and partly because of an urge to keep her boyfriend's body parts attached to his body.

"Tell me about Johnny Storm, Eve."

"Bwuh?" Oh, real intelligent, Eve. "He's Savannah's boyfriend. They've been together a little over a year. ... why?"

He gave her a look that clearly meant he wanted to know more.

"Questions, man. Give me questions. It's not like I've got an immediate report ready in my head to give you."

"Is he good to her?"

"Very. And he got her a puppy."

It made sense to her. It was a girl thing.

He raised an eyebrow.

"A puppy says that he's good to her?"

"No, it..." Eve made flaily hand motions as she tried to find the right way to say it. "It says he cares. That he's willing to do the little things, not just the big things like say he loves her."

"Is he open about his feelings for her, or does he hide it from his friends?"

"He's open about his feelings for her, but he doesn't flaunt them. Put the two of them in a room with other people and you can tell he practically worships her. But at the same time, he's appropriate."

"Hmmm." That sound could mean anything. "What is your opinion of him?"

"I would trust him with my life."

Those few words said much more than any long-winded explanation.

"That is definitely a convincing recommendation."

"If I didn't trust him, Savannah would be a whole lot of miserable because I'd be making my displeasure very known," she assured him. "But Johnny's a good guy. And he's good for her."

"Explain what you mean, if you will."

"She's more confident since she met him. His support means the world to her. I think only mine means more."

"You think it makes her more secure?"

Eve nodded. "She has her family to support us, and she adores us all, but there's just something about Johnny that does it for her a little bit differently."
