Fifth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening

The fifth-floor common room had been transformed into a riot of color and sound by the two intrepid decorators. When you had Rikku and Dōjima doing the artistic design, and they were basing it off of Romeo's collection of loud shirts, it was bound to be, ah, creative.

There were balloons and streamers everywhere, and the party even had some piñatas full of candy for people to swing at. Simply because everyone (Rikku) liked candy, and Dōjima was a fan of party games that made other people look like idiots.

There had been an email, and really, somehow, it seemed like only proper 'we got stuck in the past together for a week' etiquette to actually show up to someone's birthday. Which was why Jeff had arrived, looking a bit cheerful and a bit scared (in other words, looking like Jeff) and somewhat awkwardly checked out the decoration.

Romeo made his way to Jeff eventually, and sort of bounced in his general direction. "Thank you for coming!"

Everyone was his best friend tonight.

"Romeo! Hi!"

Jeff was far less discombobulated by suddenly being Romeo's best friend than he was by the decor, for which he was grateful. "Happy birthday!" It seemed a bit obvious.

Obvious, perhaps, but still appreciated. "Thanks. It's a good one so far, even if I am trying to give up smoking," Romeo said. "Dojima did a good job putting this together."

"It's a bit loud," Jeff opined, eying the decorations agian with a sort of animal-like wariness. "But I'm certain that makes for excellent birthdaying!" He was looking on the bright side, here.

"I don't think the music is that -- oh, the decorations?" Romeo said, momentarily confused. "I like bright colors like this, so it is a perfect party for me. They aren't your taste?"

"They're a bit... of a distraction," Jeff said, his voice conspiratorally low. "Someone could sneak up on you. Or a woman."

"I wouldn't mind so much if it were a woman," Romeo said.

"Theoretically, there's nothing wrong with being sneaked up on by a woman, especially if she's attractive," Jeff said, wisely, "However, in practice, the end result can be a bit terrifying."

"Now you have me curious," Romeo said. "What can go wrong in such a terrifying way?"

He mused this over. "Unless, of course, she's not your girlfriend, and you are caught..."

"That," Jeff said, nodding his head a bit. "Or she could ask you a question."

It sounded as if, in Jeff's world, this was the worst thing possible.

"She could!" Romeo agreed, a bit caught up in Jeff's tone until -- "Wait, why is a question so bad? You can answer a question."

"Or could you?" Jeff demanded, "I mean, what if she comes up to you and asks you about something, and, because you are so shocked, all you manage to produce is the word 'thighs'?"

Romeo just stared for a moment. "... I can honestly say that has never happened to me."

Though now he was quite worried it would.

"It could," Jeff said. He was being very, very intense in his treatment of the subject. "Or 'nipples'. 'Nipples' would be worse."

"Faith, if you said nipples she might never speak to you again!" Jeff's intensity was making Romeo alarmed.

"Exactly!" Jeff said, gesturing heavily, "You wouldn't be some party patron, you'd be a sleezy party patron with an anonymous nipple fetish!"

"Right." And again with the staring. Jeff did have a way of putting extremely vivid ideas in Romeo's imagination.

"... I think I'm going to go get more punch." Hopefully someone would have spiked it by now.
