Fifth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening

The fifth-floor common room had been transformed into a riot of color and sound by the two intrepid decorators. When you had Rikku and Dōjima doing the artistic design, and they were basing it off of Romeo's collection of loud shirts, it was bound to be, ah, creative.

There were balloons and streamers everywhere, and the party even had some piñatas full of candy for people to swing at. Simply because everyone (Rikku) liked candy, and Dōjima was a fan of party games that made other people look like idiots.

"Ino," Turtle said. "I date Jeff. My scale on what can be considered trying too hard is completely skewed. But I guess I can kind of see where you're coming from."

"Jeff's different," she insisted. "It's not... really comparable. It's more like, well, take the cookies for instance--he did it 'cause we're awesome, but I'm willing to guess that he doesn't even have faces to put to some of the names, and that's still sweet, but he can't exactly say everyone is awesome when he doesn't know them, and then it almost feels like an attempt to make people like him."

"But," Turtle offered, "it wasn't even his idea to make them for everyone. It was mine. And I can be very convincing."

"True," she conceded, with another tug at her hair. "But it feels like a pattern."

"I'm sure," Turtle was also willing to concede a little, "some of it probably is trying to just get people to like him, but, if that were really, really the point, he would have included his name on the notes. He didn't, and probably the only reason some people knew who did it was because of radio reports, and he's new, so he might not even be aware that radio takes the stealth out of a lot of things."

"Possibly."

A beat.

"There seriously ought to be a handbook for newbies, or something, geez. I had to tell him that next time his mom wants to come visit he can pretend anything weird is just a special effect for a movie, or something."

"Maybe that's an idea for Student Council," Turtle mused a little. "Real handbooks, not like those brochures that everyone gets that, I swear, each one says something different about this school, and never nearly enough."

"And maybe instead of the brochures because, seriously, I think they tailor themselves to the world they wind up in, or something, the handbook could be handed out when they get here. That way, if they've got parent issues with the weird, then they'd know what to do to keep from getting pulled out."

"Exactly!" Turtle bounced slightly, as she was likely to do when a new idea was starting to surface. "We could even put right on the cover: Fandom High School Handbook: Student Confidential!"

"Best part is that they'd totally be able to read it and ask any of the other students for confirmation 'bout it," Ino said, thinking about it more seriously. "And if we did it right then, other than periodical updates, no one would have to do it again. And we'd probably get recognition for our work on putting it together too. We'd be useful."

"I love being useful!" Turtle almost squealed, throwing in another bounce. "We totally need to bring this up at the next StuCo meeting, Ino."

So did she, so Turtle's reaction got a grin. "We'll just bring it up and talk them all 'round to it. It's a good idea."
