Fourth Floor Common Room - Sunday Afternoon

Emmett had spent most of the night exploring the dorms and enjoying being able to walk around without the smell of humans being too overpowering. He was thinking about going into town but decided to pace himself when it came to exploring. If he saw everything too fast then he got bored and when he got bored he tended to make houses out of cardboard and play "General Sherman is burnin' everything" in the yard with Jasper (well, Emmett played. Jasper glared). He had the feeling burning the dorms down by accident would be frowned upon. So around 5 am he staked out a place in the common room and started to watch TV.

Now there was football on! Emmett had his ass on the couch, a football in his hand and was watching the Dolphins playing the Ravens. Then the Eagles were playing the Vikings at 4:30. God, he loved Sundays. He was tossing the football quickly between his two hands but making sure it was at a human's pace just in case anyone came in.

[Open, yes. I hope Miami wins...I think I jinxed them omg]

"Can't everyone?" she asked, smiling.

No. She was generally kind of clumsy.

But she might have a lucky moment, which was why she was bouncing and excitedly anticipating the throw.

Kaylee actually jumped to catch it. It probably wasn't really necessary to jump. She was just flaily. But she did catch it after minimal fumbling. "I caught it!"

Yes, Kaylee. Very good.

"Thanks!" Kaylee realized she did, indeed, need to throw it back.

So she carefully took aim and tossed it back to Emmett. Except she didn't know how to make it spiral or anything, so she basically just threw it underhand.

Yes, act surprised that Kaylee throws like a girl. It's so shocking.

"Kaylee," she said, waving now that her hands were free. "Are you one of the new kids? I mean, I guess you must be, 'cause I ain't seen you before an' no offense but I think missin' you might be like completely ignorin' an Alliance cruiser. You're kinda big."

"Nice t'meet you," she said, grinning and bouncing on her toes just a little. She loved new people. "Where're you from, Emmett?"

"I dunno where that is," she admitted, skittering the rest of the way in to plop into a chair. And when she said that, she meant she didn't know where Washington was. "Are y'from this year, too?"

She shook her head, always pleased to tell people this part. "I won't be born for...." She did some quick mental math. "Four hundred an' eighty-eight years, now."

That was a new reaction.

She liked it.

"We got some hovercraft," she said, nodding agreeably. "We're a lil' beyond cars, honestly, but we 'call our land transport 'mules' an' they look kinda like those real, real big yellow cars? An' some of 'em hover. An' yeah, I'm from another planet. It's called Beylix."

"I could make one," Kaylee said, thoughtfully. "I'd need an engine an' stuff, an'...prolly a car to work off of. But I could try."

"You don't got to pay me," she assured him, now working through the logistics in her head. "It'd take a bit of time, but I could prolly do it."

"I grew up helpin' my daddy in his shop," she said, nodding. "Machines kinda just...talk to me." She shrugged. "Your girl -- is she here? I always like meetin' 'nother mechanically-minded person."

"Awwww. I bet that must be tough," Kaylee said, frowning a little. "I dunno if I could do that, with the long distancey stuff."
