Third Floor Common Room, Tuesday Afternoon

With the cold and his so-called 'class' being what they were, Arthur could no longer avoid spending at least some time within the dorms. So he took a broom into the common room, perched it somewhere against a wall nearby, and then cast a questioning eye over the room's contents.

At least a chair was a chair no matter where you went. He took a seat, a great, big, space-claiming seat, and leaned the elbow that wasn't contained by the sling on the arm of the chair. From that position, he took careful stock, including a wary one of the black box that rested in the room.

The locals seemed to have a thing about boxes.

One could not make herself known to the general newbie population if one kept herself confined, so Turtle diverted herself toward a common room once she got out of her Management class, which left her in a very good mood.

She snorted a bit when she saw who'd found his way there. "Compliments on your broadcast last night, your Highness," she said, flopping into a chair of her own.

Arthur's head turned to meet the voice, and the smallish girl it was attached to. Utterly failing to unravel what she was saying, Arthur took a breath, and decided to alleviate his ignorance with a respectful, "My what?"

"Your broadcast," Turtle repeated; she thought to do it slowly, as if for the stupid, but decided that with this one she was just going to forge on ahead and make him try to keep up. "On the radio last night. That whole ordeal with the squirrels? Congratulations, you've been indoctrinated."

"Turtle," Romeo said with a smile. "I'd been meaning to talk to you. Would you help me if I asked a question about Pixie Dust?"

He still had not forgotten she'd championed her own shop over his on the radio, after all, but he had to admit she seemed to be good at this running-a-business thing.

"...Romeo," Turtle said, blinking at him a little while trying to maintain a small smile. Dangerous business he played, asking for advice for the competition. But her smile was friendly, hiding her internal daggers, and she shrugged, casually, "Sure! What's up?"

Business not so good? You have to close it down? Awwww, so sad!

Oh, here was Turtle, the girl with an interest in business and law. "Good afternoon, Turtle," Leto said. She had struck him as someone with potential for further training in politics, and he should take care to investigate that further.

"Leto!" Turtle greeted him with a smile. "Hey, how's it going? Adjusting okay, still?"

Romeo wasn't usually down on the third floor, but they sometimes had the good kind of microwave pizza. He nodded a half-interested greeting to the new student on his way into the kitchen, then paused as he glanced at the sling. "Hello. There's a bit of a plague of arm injuries of late, it seems."

"If there's a plague of it," Arthur spoke, his eyes gliding to identify Romeo while he remained otherwise still in his chair, "Mine has nothing to do with it." It was barely anything, really.

"Perhaps a trend and not a plague, then, as it's all unrelated," Romeo said thoughtfully. "I was hurt in the fall, and Triela was over break. What did you do?"

Most faces around here were new to Leto, and never before in his life had he had to introduce himself. Still, what better way to learn than to practice? "Good afternoon," he said.

"Good day to you," Romeo returned with a grin. "I'm called Romeo, I don't think we've met yet."

"Romeo!" Rikku bounced, waving. He should be glad he was escaping without a tackleglomp. "There you are! How was Verona? Have you seen Reno? Did you know he got me a chocobo?! A little baby one, and it's back home being raised and everything."

It had been a while. They had a lot to catch up on. That was why she was talking so fast.

Rikku might not have tackleglomped Romeo, but Romeo would tackleglomp her to make up for it. "It's been ages! Verona was well enough, I have not, and I did not know that! What color is it?"

Returning to his room, Leto threw a glance into the common room, and finding his temporary roommate there he smiled. "Good afternoon, Arthur," he said. "Settling in?"

Hardly. He had no intent of settling in at any time.

"I've gotten comfortable," Arthur said aloud, "I suppose these chairs aren't a complete waste of my time."

Leto frowned, studying the chair. "They are chairs," he said. "As such, they are functional."

If his sister had been here he feared she might have told him to behave.

Oh, hey, her little sib, Gavin! She hadn't seen him in ages.

"So what's new with you?" she bounced. And that's when she noticed the eyes. "Did you ... uh ... get you get ... those color contact things?"

... He didn't seem to be going for subtlety, exactly. They were kinda noticeable. And this was coming from a girl with spiral pupils.

Leto gave the girl a surprised look. "Have we met?" he asked, while quite sure that they hadn't. He would have remembered her, he was sure.

Oh, hey, people in her common room! Rikku glanced around. "Hiya!" she said. "Are you new? Ooooh, what happened to your arm?"

"Yes, I'm new," Arthur replied. He'd only had to say it about a dozen times by now, after all, "Thank you for noticing. I got in a fight with a Questing Beast, which yes, is now slain." That took care of about all questions involved.

Jenny wandered into a common room not her own in search of food, as she was pretty much over living off crisps and tinned soup. She didn't see any food in this one, but she did see a fit blond. That would do.

She flung herself into a chair and said, "You're new. I would have noticed."

Well, now.

"Thank you," Arthur answered. As far as statements of how new he was went, that carried a load he wasn't completely annoyed by. "And you must not be." He was growing more accustomed to this 'people not knowing who he was' thing.

After discussing it in class earlier that day, Alex decided she wanted to make herself a Mets' sandwich. She wandered down to the common room, wondering if she'd find all of the ingredients there. She'd probably have to go out and buy some of them later. She'd made a checklist. Alex was nothing if resourceful.

Noticing the common room was occupied, she offered a smile and wave. "Hey."

"Yes," Arthur answered, "I'm new."

Anticipating on these questions before they were asked should become a habit, really. He looked up to see who it was, and found an unfamiliar face. Alright.
