Second Floor Common Room, Saturday Evening

Tony had the DVD for Harry V and a box full of doughnuts from J, GOB, because he couldn't think of any good reason to not have doughnuts for dinner. He put the movie in and flopped down on the couch with the remote.

Priestly shrugged. "Well, I dunno. I've heard some weird stuff, but I've always thought that things were weirder than most people thought."

"Good attitude," Tony grinned. "Most everything you hear about around here is real."

"Including squirrels running the news?"

"It's more gossip than actual news," Tony said.

[lovemykilt]

"Hell, that's what the news was mostly back home, too."

Priestly clearly hadn't actually listened to the radio broadcasts yet.

"This stuff's local gossip. Not celebrities," Tony said.

"That just makes it more interesting."

[wantstodirect]

"True. I like your kilt," Tony said. The guy had nice legs. "Not too chilly?"

"Not indoors."

"So when you go out, you what, put on legwarmers?" Tony asked, curious. He couldn't quite picture it.

Okay, now he could and it was weird.

Priestly laughed. "Nah. I do own pants, man."

Tony shrugged. "You never know," he smiled. "Where are you from? And when?"

"Santa Cruz. 2009, so no time travel for me."

"Vancouver, Canada," Tony said, gesturing to himself. "It was 2008 when I left there, but," he grinned, "that was September."

"Yep, that'd do it." Priestly grinned back. "So you've been here a little while, huh? What brought you?"

"I found out I was a wizard, so this seemed like a good place to go," Tony said. Which was the truth, even if it was leaving some pretty big chunks out. "How about you?"

"I set fire to my khakis on the back lawn and almost burned down my mom's garden. She thought this place might 'straighten me out'. You're a wizard?"

Tony laughed. "Cool. And yep. Well, I'm learning."

"Is it something anybody can learn? Or are you, like, born with magic powers?"

[wantstodirect]

"You have to be born with, like, an ability for it," Tony said. "But you might not know it. I didn't know, until last summer."

"What happened last summer?"

[wantstodirect]

"I met another wizard and I kinda helped her with some stuff," Tony said. If the guy was still skeptical about squirrel radio, Tony wasn't sure how he'd take homicidal shadows.

Priestly figured the vague was a sign of "he doesn't want to talk about it."

"Cool. My friend back home is pretty sure the woman who owns the crystal shop is a witch, but that's about as magical as things seemed to get."

"Do you think she is a witch?" Tony asked.

[lovemykilt]

"I dunno. Trucker says she 'knows' things. I haven't seen anything that says otherwise."
