Sunday Afternoon: Third Floor Common Room

Dor wasn't sure what the big deal was about the big football game. After all they had football back in Xanth but they were just balls of feet that rolled around the jungle making footpaths for the populace to use.

So he decided to skip the whole gathering and settle down in the common room and see what was on TV.

It was then that he stumbled across the Puppy Bowl and somehow became hypnotized by the images of puppies frolicking around and playing with each other.

[Because... well it's what I watch instead of the Super Bowl. Because it's Puppies. Yes, I am a dork.]

He sounded strangely serious. "If it's about what the shower curtain told me, we really don't need to talk," Adora promised.

"... What did the shower curtain say?" Dor asked cautiously.

"Nothing that bears repeating," Adora said quickly, forcing a smile and trying her hardest not to blush. "What did you want to talk about?"

"Last week. You left the window open in our room," Dor replied. "Right before Heroing class. Do you remember?"

Yes. This was Dor trying to be subtle.

Adora's eyes went wide and her mind raced as she wondered what he knew. "Oh! Yes, the window. I'm sorry! Did anything important blow away?"

"No. But the room told me everything that happened right before the whole... window thing," Dor replied giving her a knowing look. "Which kind of explains how you weren't exactly in class that day."

"Then you know about She-Ra," Adora said quietly, biting her lip and waiting for him to get angry or something.

"Yes," Dor said with a nod. "I have to admit I don't know how it whole works or anything but I'm assuming it's like Bitterwoman having a secret identity and everything, right? And don't worry. I haven't told anyone and the room isn't allowed to say a word about it to anyone else."

She chanced a hopeful look, "Then you're not upset that I kept this from you?" It was sort of amazing to think Dor understood the secret identity thing already.

"Well, I figured you had a good reason," Dor replied. "Plus I work in a comic book shop. I just thought you keep your secret identity so that no one can go after the people you care for."

"That is it exactly!" Adora was so excited. "Dor, you are so understanding, I'm glad it was you that found out. Was there anything you'd like me to explain? Or is it better if you don't know?"

"I don't know," Dor replied. "In the comics there's usually a whole origin story when this kind of revelation happens. The room mentioned something about a grey skull. Is that part of it?"

"Oh yes," Adora nodded, looking around and deeming it safe enough to share her story. "Grayskull is the magical castle on Eternia where our friend the Sorceress lives. My brother Adam is He-Man, the defender of Castle Grayskull. The Sorceress gave each of us a magical sword that channels the magic of Grayskull to transform us into He-Man and She-Ra so we can protect our worlds from evil."

"Oh! I get it," Dor said. "It's a kind of object that enables transformation magic. That's actually pretty neat. Have you been a hero a long time?"

"Only for a few months," she told him. "It's why I'm here, really. I was trapped under Shadow Weaver's evil spell for so long, I think my parents worried about sending me right back to fighting against the evil I used to work for."

"Ooo," Dor said. "Shadow Weaver? That sounds very menacing."

"Oh, she's horrible," Adora agreed. "Anytime I questioned the Horde or their methods of taking over Etheria her eyes would glow red and she'd coat my mind in her mist."

"I don't think Xanth has ever faced anything that evil," Dor replied. "Well my Dad once faced a woman who wanted to be queen and had the power of illusion but she got married to the current king and isn't that evil. Unless her daughter is interested in you."

"Oh! Is her daughter interested in you?" Adora wondered.

"Um. Yes."

Dor frowned.

"Sometimes."

"I don't follow," Adora replied. "Wait, is she your girlfriend?"

Dor opened his mouth to say some sort of answer but...

"That depends on her mood," Dor admitted. "Sometimes she's okay with me. Other times she chases me away with her scary plants. I don't understand it at all really."

"Wow, that sounds complicated," Adora replied. "Yet you continue?"

Dor grinned. "It's complicated. This has been going on since we were ten."

Her eyes went wide, "That's a very long time. I was so focused on training at ten I can't imagine I'd have noticed a boy."
