Ender didn't get out much, and for the most part, he preferred life that way.

But he could only spend so much time holed up with the droid and his work without Valentine's voice prodding at him; and while that was rarely enough to actually move him to do something-- listening to an imagined voice was a little silly-- he felt like humouring it today.

So Ender made himself some tea, and sat down. He even turned on the television, seeking out a documentary on extreme engineering that looked interesting.

He blamed Stark.

"Congratulations," Triela laughed. "I guess we both got lucky, huh?"

"That," Ender said, without any real sense of arrogance, "Or we just happen to be good at avoiding these kind of things." He sipped his tea.

"Well, it's possible that we have experience with avoiding things we don't have time to deal with," she agreed. Triela didn't have any tea to sip, unfortunately.

If she wanted it, it was always there to make. Ender didn't run errands. "Technically, we had time for dancing," he said, reasonably, "We just lack the inclination."

"I don't know," Triela countered casually. "It's harder to watch people when you're dancing." And she had gotten quite a bit of people watching done.

"If that's all you're doing all night," he said, then looked up at her. "Of course, dancing might give you a different perspective." Not that he thought it was worth trying.

"Sure," she said with the tone that said she didn't think it was worth trying either.

He sipped his tea again.

"No one set the dance on fire," he said, "I think we did our job."

"Though it might have been interesting if anyone had tried," Triela mused. "Would have made things interesting."

"I think some of the students might agree," Ender said. Like Ben, especially. "But that probably wouldn't have done the school budget a lot of good."

"True." Triela frowned. "How do they afford all of the stuff that's going on around here, anyway?"

"My theory is either a set of multiversal trust funds, or some kind of multiversal banking trick," said Ender, who might have spent too much time thinking about this.

Triela eyed Ender for a moment before smirking. "Someone's spent too much time thinking about that question."

"I have a lot of time on my hands," Ender said, "You've seen our classes."

"True," Triela nodded. "And you don't get called back home on a regular basis..."

She considered for a moment. "Maybe join some clubs?"

"Maybe next term," Ender agreed, "But I'm already in science club and StuCo as it stands. Or maybe I should become a violinist and join Music Club."

"What do you do in StuCo, anyway?" Triela asked casually.

Then she added: "You'd always be welcome in the Girls With Guns club, I'm sure."

"I don't really like guns," he said, honestly. Anymore. "Mostly we just arrange the dances. It's not as exciting as it sounds."

"So you don't have any real power to abuse?" Triela asked, clearly teasing.

"I could arrange to have the next party in a pool," he offered, "But that's about it."

"Huh," Triela mused. "That actually might be rather funny..."

Maybe she should join StuCo...

"It would fit in our illustrous tradition of party themes," Ender said, without really bothering to sound anything but deadpan.

"Who was responsible for this one, anyway?" Triela asked with a sardonic eyeroll.

"Joan," Ender supplied, "At least it gave people something to think about."

Or made the paranoid more paranoid. Ender was pretty much at the end of his paranoid rope all the time anyway, so he hadn't cared much.

"Or heightened some peoples' paranoid," Triela snorted. "I figure just about everything that can go bad for me has at this point, so..." she shrugged.
