The Salle [afternoon]

Nothing short of being actually set on fire was going to stop Ben from being in the salle today.

Leto was going to show him how to use those knives! If Ben were the type to squeal, he'd be squealing. Since he wasn't, he'd shown up ten minutes before the time they were supposed to meet.

You know, just in case.

Ben nodded and when the blade came spinning at his face, he did as Leto suggested. The strength thing wasn't a problem: he was a lot stronger than he looked.

Perhaps this was too much of a risk, but Leto decided it was one worth taking. He launched the second blade into the air.

Ben's face lit up as he slid out from under one blade and deflected the second one with his knife.

"You learn quickly," Leto said, taking a few steps backwards.

Ben nodded, looking a little shy. "Is that a problem?"

[future_sandworm]

"Should it be?" Leto asked, amused. "Most people would consider it an advantage."

[momslilassassin]

"I tend to hold back," he admitted. "It makes people underestimate me."

Ben was sneaky.

Leto nodded. Clearly he wasn't the first to do that, but he could certainly understand reasons for holding back. It might be presumptuous to assume that he knew Ben well enough to know why though. "Because it would make others uncomfortable?" he asked.

Ben nodded back. "I'm the son of the Jedi Grand Master," he said. "My birth made the kriffing news. I'd like to have some friends."

And Leto had to laugh at that, quite understanding what Ben meant. "I am the son of an Emperor and a prophet," he said. "I am lucky to have a twin sister."

"Yeah," Ben said, sounding wistful. "I feel like I'm missing out not being a twin in my family."

[future_sandworm]

"You have my sympathy," Leto replied. "Do you want to try this again?"

"Please," Ben said eagerly. "This is a little like lightsaber practice."

[future_sandworm]

He gestured for Ben to go ahead. "You know, I did get to try lightsabers in your grandfather's Ethics class," he said with a grin.

Ben went back to the blades, this time with his eyes open. "What did you think?" he asked.

The grin widened. "Oh, a lot of fun."

"Was this Granddad's save the chancellor thing?" he asked.

[future_sandworm]

"It was," Leto said. "So, are only Jedi permitted to use them?"

[momslilassassin]

Ben nodded. "They're...attuned to us. We build them as part of becoming a knight. We're the only ones with fast enough reflexes to use them." He grinned at Leto. "In our galaxy, anyway."

"Perhaps because in your universe you are the only ones with the ability to develop it," Leto commented cheerfully.

[momslilassassin]

"Makes sense," Ben agreed. "So you're father's a prophet? So's mine. Well, kind of. He sees the future sometimes."

[future_sandworm]

That was a coincidence. Leto nodded. "My father is dead. But he had prescient vision. It's not an easy burden to carry."

"It's not," Ben agreed softly. "So far, I don't seem to have inherited it. I'm...kind of grateful for that. I don't want to know what's coming." He gave Leto a small smile. "And I'm sorry that your father's gone. My mom died a few months ago."

[future_sandworm]

"Neither do I," Leto replied. "And I'm sorry about your mother. Mine died when I was born and my father shortly after."

"How shortly after?" Ben asked. He was still very worried about Luke's mental fragility.
