The Salle [afternoon]

Nothing short of being actually set on fire was going to stop Ben from being in the salle today.

Leto was going to show him how to use those knives! If Ben were the type to squeal, he'd be squealing. Since he wasn't, he'd shown up ten minutes before the time they were supposed to meet.

You know, just in case.

Leto arrived on time, bringing the blades with him. He hadn't slept that well after the alarm during the night, but hopefully it didn't show - he was used to sneaking out and spendings nights in the desert without anyone noticing after all.

He nodded to Ben in greeting and gave him a smile, unable not to notice his enthusiasm.

Ben beamed back at him. "Good afternoon!"

He hadn't been in this good a mood all week.

It was a relief to have a cheerful Ben around rather than his cranky roommate, who hopefully would not show up to mutilate the dummys.

Leto held up the blades. "Ready for this? I think an explanation how they work is necessary even if the mun totally have to make that up." He grinned.

Ben nodded eagerly. "Pointy ends away from things I'd like to keep, right?"

"...Yes." He smiled. "But you won't be able to avoid that. Once in the air, the blades will target a moving object radiating body heat. The more you move, the more precise their aim, but even the flick of a finger is enough." He held one of them up. "You can hit them off course with your body as long as you stay away from the edge and know what you're doing. But what I usually do is redirect them towards the floor, which will deactivate them, using a knive." He held up the two he had brought.

Ben nodded along, memorizing everything Leto was telling him. He gestured his head towards Tahiri. "I think she'll be upset if I start banking them off my arm the first time out," he said quietly.

"I would be too if you did," Leto told him. "Before starting with the blades we have to master the basics of prana bindu muscle control to increase precision and speed of movements. Hopefully your training has something of use in this too," and he would like to see what, "But I have to tell you to use the knives. And we start with only one blade."

"Jedi are all about muscle control," he said, "and I can move pretty fast if I have to. One blade is more than fine."

He had suspected there would be something Ben already knew that would come in useful. Leto nodded. He held up one blade, ready to launch it.

"Ready?"

Tahiri still didn't look like she'd gotten much sleep at all after the fire drill (because she hadn't). But here she was anyway, standing by the doorway of the salle, just watching.

She didn't really think Ben was going to lose any extremities, but, you know, just in case. Besides, she wanted to see how this went too.

. . . considering what was going on this week, she might not have thought this through completely.

Ben noticed her presence immediately and turned to smile. "You look like you need a nap."

"That's the plan for later," Tahiri replied, smothering a yawn. "After this I think I'm going to crawl into bed and not get up until tomorrow."

"Turn off the comm, too," he suggested.

She leaned back against the wall and shut her eyes for a few seconds. "Yeah. That's the plan."

Ben's Force-sense turned a little worried. "After I'm finished here, we'll talk?" he asked.

She nodded and, not wanting him to have too much on his mind before playing with really sharp blades, opened her eyes to give him a reassuring smile as she teased, "Better get cleaned up first, though. If you smell like the inside of a sandcrawler all bets are off."

"I'll be sure to lay off the bantha-scented soap, then," he promised.

"Oh, good. That way I won't confuse you with the pet bantha I used to have," Tahiri teased.

Leto gave a smile and a nod in Tahiri's direction, noticing how sleepy she looked.

Tahiri raised a hand in a half-wave and smiled back. "Hi, Leto." She at least left out the part about how he'd better not let Ben get cut up.

"Tahiri," he said cheerfully. "Are you here to make sure I don't let Ben do anything foolish."

She'd been obvious, hadn't she?

Tahiri laughed and flushed a little. "Maybe . . ."

It had seemed like a better thing to say than to suggest she was just here to gawk at her boyfriend. "I'll do my best not to have him injured," Leto replied.

Well, okay, she was here to do that too, but she also had an interest in him keeping his limbs. "I'd appreciate that," Tahiri told him. "I really don't want to have to kick you."

That was sweet! Leto smirked. "As I said, I will do my best so that you don't have to resort to that."
