Fifth Floor Common Room; Friday Evening [ 03/06 ].

Turtle was thinking that maybe she should have something exciting or interesting to do on a Friday but...well, she kind of didn't. She did, however, need to get away from that stupid, drooling dog for just a little bit, so she took a book and drifted down to the common room. She made some hot cocoa and curled up on the corner of the couch.

However, CNN on was on the background, so she kept getting distracted from reading, especially in watching the little ticker go by at the bottom of the screen.

"Exactly," Turtle nodded. "It also helps that I'm pretty old hat when it comes to this sort of thing."

"...and I'm no longer new at a-all," she said, mildly surprised as she considered the time. "It'll be a y-year come summer."

Where had the time gone?

"Whoa!" Turtle grinned. "An anniversary coming up! Congrats, Hinata."

"It doesn't feel so long," she said, looking amused. "I w-wonder if that's part of the island too, making the time go by..."

"Maybe," Turtle said. "I mean, I've been here, like, three years now. I was fourteen when I started; I'll be seventeen in less than twenty days. It's kind of crazy to think about it."

She glanced over. "Are you d-doing anything for your birthday then?"

"I'm not sure yet," Turtle admitted with a tilt of her head. "Something to definitely think about. I do like to keep plans like that open, just in case someone wants to throw a party for me."

"Do you like p-parties?" she asked, considering that, and then grinning a bit slyly. "I got away without a-anyone celebrating my last birthday."

Hinata had much preferred that.

"I do," Turtle said, "but I'm much better at holding them myself than having people hold them for me. And when was your birthday?" She smirked a little wickedly. "It might not be too late."

She weighed her options... It was March now, surely that was long enough.

"December 27th," she said, shaking her head. "I g-guess I'll just have to wait for the end of this year."

Thank goodness.

"Maybe," Turtle said, trying not to sound too cryptic or thoughtful about the matter.

"Did you at least do anything fun for it, though?"

That got a pause a few shades too long. "I was happy with my u-usual routine?"

Turtle grinned a little at that.

"Did you at least get presents?"

"A few s-scrolls," she said, smiling slightly. "A letter from my father." With a small bit of praise in it, so she counted it as a present. "It w-went with the scrolls," Hinata explained. "And a few small things from other people b-back home."

"Are there, like, spells or something on the scrolls?"

"Tips and pointers mostly," she said, considering that. "For my family's fighting s-style. It was a good gift."

"Very useful," Turtle agreed with a nod and a smile. "Like a subscription to the Wall Street Journal."

A bit of a grin. "There's nothing w-wrong with practical gifts."

"I love practical gifts!" Turtle said. "I always give Turtle & Canary gift cards; they're immensely practical."

She laughed. "And people get to p-pick what they want--everyone is happy."

"Yup!" Turtle beamed proudly. "So, anything else you've been up to recently? You keeping busy, or do you have a lot of time?"

Not that Turtle was asking to subtly try to find out when the best time for a surprise party might be.

"A f-fair bit of time outside of classes," she said, giving Turtle a sidelong look. "Though T-Tuesdays are busy, I have class, work, and play rehearsal then."

A week's worth of activity in one day, really.

Turtle nodded a little. No Tuesdays, then.

"How's the play coming along?"

"We're a-about half-way through it now," she said, smiling. "And it seems to b-be going well. People are getting better at their lines, and it's..."

A bit of a shrug.

"Fun."
