Just Outside The Main Gate, Saturday Morning

Much like the previous day, Saturday found Arthur venturing back down to the barricade. It was early, the sunlight was yet shallow and leaning towards overcast, and only the first warbles of birds became evident as he slogged at the thing.

At least it had remained intact overnight. He was in full armor yet again, with shamelessly modded Merlin at his side. He'd stayed quiet opposite the boy most of the time, barring talk of strategy. The magic was something that'd have to be discussed again if they managed to survive this whole mess.

He climbed up so he could take a quick survey of the town. Watching the still forms lumber about, he felt a chill settling in his bones. There was only one word he could use to describe it.

"Bugger," he muttered, succinctly, and ran a hand through his hair. Sometimes, he had a knack for brevity.

"You too, big time. I almost can't stand to listen to Radio now, worrying about who's name will come up as bitten." Although last night's had been extra-surreal. "I just wish someone could figure out what we needed to do to stop this." She looked at Éowyn's sword, and added ruefully, "And that I could use a real sword yet." She swung her bat. "Although I guess the principle is the same."

"A blunt object can still do damage," Éowyn assured her. "It sounds as though you've been practicing, from what the voices on the radio have said."

"Yeah, last two months' worth. I could maybe hold my own against, well. Someone else who's been training two months. Maybe I could hack off a zombie's arm, but I don't want to get that close." Dinah looked rueful. "But I'm good with fighting them with anything else, anyway."

"I have no doubt about that. I feel safer with you here," Éowyn assured her. She wanted to try to help Dinah feel better since she'd always been so nice to her.

"Really?" Dinah beamed at her, kind of amazed. "Thanks. And back at you, because I saw you with the harpies. You and Alice--" Dinah stopped, abruptly, then took a breathe. "You and Alice were really impressive."

"Is Alice still all right?" Éowyn asked. "I am certain that she can defend herself, but these creatures are not much like the harpies."

Dinah's face fell. "Um. No. I heard on the Radio... she got caught the other night. Along with some other people." She swallowed. "And Leto's a tree, and I guess some other people got turned into animals? If last night's Radio wasn't completely delusional."

"I have been told that turning into an animal is not harmful here, and is merely something one must occasionally endure," Éowyn said, trying to keep her voice calm. "Getting caught by zombies is not. They will pay for those they have harmed."

"Right," Dinah, determined if still rattled. "And nobody else."

"No one else will get hurt. Not on our watch," Éowyn replied.
