The Deck, early evening Thursday

Dinah had hamburgers and hot dogs, some veggie platters and chips and dip, soft drinks and cake. Oh, and ice cream in the fridge inside for later.

Happy birthday, Will Shakespeare! Oh, and her too.

[very limited OCD about to go up!, for early justice and time zones; set before Dress Rehearsal/Previews.

Anyone welcome, even if you don't know her! I'm sticking to Dinah's thread to keep it simple.]

"I got banged around but nothing that stuck," Lee said, nodding. "So, I can't complain. And hey, come Fall, they'll get a chance to come see this place if they wanna. Parent's Weekend."

"Oh, wow." Dinah now had the image of Helena meeting some of her friends, and started giggling. "That'll be a trip. What did your dad think of it when he visited?"

"He was less than impressed but I think that's just him," Lee decided. "He's not easily impressed. I got to stay though. That was the important thing."

"And now I'm really glad that Parent's Weekend isn't 'til fall," Dinah decided. "I had a hard enough time talking them into letting me stay when I explained about this place. If they'd actually seen it-- yikes." She grinned at him, a little wistfully. "I'll stop by the library to give you the books back on Sunday. I really liked the Poe. Your girlfriend has good taste."

"I'll tell her you said so," he said, pleased. "Considering it took me some time to get into his work, you did better than me. She'll be happy to hear that not everyone's as hardheaded as I am when it comes to good literature."

"I liked the rhythms a lot," Dinah confessed. Weeeird to have something in common with his Adah besides liking him. "Way easier than Shakespeare. And I'm not really all that much into the gloomy stuff, but it was way romantic, too, some of it."

"Oh man, Shakespeare bores me," he admitted. "I could never get into his stuff unless someone was stabbing someone else with a sword. Poe was a little better even if guy's don't tend to look for the romantic aspects."

"All that we see or seem / Is but a dream within a dream," Dinah recited from the Poe she'd read, then shrugged, bashful. "You should come to the play next week, though. Lots of stabbing! Battle scenes! It's a lot easier to follow off the page."

"What's the play?" Lee asked curiously. "I haven't been to one of the plays here yet but if there's action, they can't be that boring."

He'd heard the stereotypes.

"Harry V," Dinah told him, looking eager. "It's got two battles, and execution, and treachery and fistfighting." She'd gotten kind of used to selling the play in these terms by now. "It's on Sunday, and a couple other days next week. When you have time, maybe?"

"All I'm gonna have till graduation is time," he told her. "I should be able to make it. It'll keep me from staring at walls in my room and second guessing myself."
