The Deck, early evening Thursday

Dinah had hamburgers and hot dogs, some veggie platters and chips and dip, soft drinks and cake. Oh, and ice cream in the fridge inside for later.

Happy birthday, Will Shakespeare! Oh, and her too.

[very limited OCD ~~about to go~~ up!, for early justice and time zones; set before Dress Rehearsal/Previews.

Anyone welcome, even if you don't know her! I'm sticking to Dinah's thread to keep it simple.]

"Oh, cool, got it on the first guess," he said, chuckling. "Happy birthday!"

"It's the voice and the height, and I love your broadcasts," Dinah told him, grinning. "And you said you were going to show up, and here you are! Non-stalkery and everything. Does your brother really do that?"

Filters: after caffiene, Dinah does not have them.

Emmett laughed. "Nah, not really. I don't think. He's just flaily around girls so me and my other brother like to tease him about it."

Emmett had not seen Edward around Bella yet so he did not know the teasing hit close to home.

"Awwwww," Dinah shook her head, still smiling, then remembered and said, "Like you've been teasing my buddy Merlin? Dude! Twice?"

"It's how I express my love," Emmett said with a nod before laughing again. "Really falling for it for a second time was his own fault."

"How was it his fault?" Dinah asked. "He doesn't know enough technology to know you could have a different DVD in the case!" She paused, then admitted, "Although, if he knew it came from Chuck, he really should've ... wondered a little."

Because c'mon. Even she knows about Chuck. Of course, she can't help it, with him living next door.

"See? That's my point exactly! Why would you accept anything from Chuck?" he said. "I really do like Ears though. He's like a little brother. A really, really little brother. With big ears."

Dinah snorted, then shook her head, rolling her eyes but smiling. "And Francine gave you hell for it again, right? 'Cause wow, I would've. Plus the Badger thing! Badger? She's cute!"

"You obviously haven't seen her angry," Emmett said. "When she gets angry her face shrinks up into this little badgery look with squinty eyes and a wrinkled up nose."

Dinah was about to say no, she hadn't, when she suddenly remembered the cruise, and Francine breaking up Katina's almost-wedding to Jen. "I-- hunh." She frowned, tilting her head, and said, "Nooooo, not so much a badger, more of a..." Hunh. "Really pissed-off chipmunk?" With a truck driver's mouth on her, too.

"Chipmunkface doesn't have the same sort of ring to it," Emmett mused. "I have to make my nicknames radio-worthy."

Dinah snorted again, then laughed, remembering the Soap Opera Day broadcast. "I wanted to track you down and thank you after you made me and Priestly the comic relief that one Tuesday where everyone was having drama and you went the soap opera route. I laughed way too much. You and Arthur and Katina are the ones I listen to live all the time, if I can stay awake."

"Aw, thanks," Emmett said with a grin. "My family can't believe that people here would let me on air. Usually I'm being told to keep my mouth shut because, you know, I tend to get carried away."

Dinah snickered, trying to imagine that his brothers telling him that. "Noooo, really?"

"Yeah, surprising, right?" Emmett said, laughing. "I know it seems like I'm a guy who has a lot of tact but apparently I don't."
