The Deck, early evening Thursday

Dinah had hamburgers and hot dogs, some veggie platters and chips and dip, soft drinks and cake. Oh, and ice cream in the fridge inside for later.

Happy birthday, Will Shakespeare! Oh, and her too.

[very limited OCD about to go up!, for early justice and time zones; set before Dress Rehearsal/Previews.

Anyone welcome, even if you don't know her! I'm sticking to Dinah's thread to keep it simple.]

Dinah spotted her and waved, smiling. "Triela!" She made her way over and snagged a plate of cake for her on the way. "Cake!"

Tiny bit wired. Tiny bit tired.

Triela smiled a bit in spite of herself. "How much of it have you had?" She reached out and took the plate to be polite, but it looked quite sweet.

Triela wasn't a big sweets person.

"Two pieces. And maybe a half." Or three, if you count the bits of other people's she's eaten. "We've got healthy veggie things though, as well as charred meat." Dinah grinned. "Something for everyone!"

"If this weren't your party I might suggest cutting you off," Triela teased, holding the plate in one hand and the bag under her arm with the other as she smirked.

Dinah snorted, then made a face. "It is, though! So ha! Plus, I need the energy for tonight's play. Or I'll fall over from sheer nerves." She looked at the package, and grinned. "Present, or something else?"

"Present," Triela laughed at Dinah's energy. "You want it now or should I hold onto it for you?"

"I suppose so," Triela said with mock-reluctance. She slipped the bag out from under her arm. It was clear that it was actually wrapped around a rather large box (which she'd wrapped in a very tasteful cream-colored paper and tied off with a pearlescent satin bow). She handed the whole thing to Dinah.

[Oh, sure, and I bet you have some excuse like "It's a birthday post and I have over a dozen threads going at once", or something equally unconvincing! :)]

"Oooooo," Dinah said, gleeful. "So pretty!" She undide the ow and the paper very carefully, then opened the box carefully.

"I had to guess at your size," Triela admitted as a pair of black leather boots (http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446194408&afsrc=1&site_refer=GGLBASE001&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=ParentItem0442204782991) revealed themselves. "So I hope they fit." She sort of held her breath waiting for Dinah's reaction.

Fortunately, Triela was very good with footwear. As long as the footwear in question were boots.

Dinah was hugging the boots. It appeared she liked them.

Triela smiled a subdue sort of smile. "I hoped you might."

She'd had to have them rush-delivered from Spain, but that look made it worth the hassle.

"Thank you so, so much Triela. These are awesome." Dinah had to sit down and try on the boots right there, then bounced up and stalk around, getting the feel for them. "Yes!"

Triela laughed. "I thought you could use a nice pair. They're very sturdy." And she would know, she's worn similar pairs on more than a few missions.
