The Deck, early evening Thursday

Dinah had hamburgers and hot dogs, some veggie platters and chips and dip, soft drinks and cake. Oh, and ice cream in the fridge inside for later.

Happy birthday, Will Shakespeare! Oh, and her too.

[very limited OCD ~~about to go~~ up!, for early justice and time zones; set before Dress Rehearsal/Previews.

Arthur put yet more sausage on his plate, and shot Merlin a meaningful look over it. "If you're not hungry..."

"I have quite a bit of faith in you," Merlin reminded him dryly, giving him the sausage. "But I'm not an idiot."

"You sure?" Arthur asked, automatically, took the sausage, and ate it.

Hey, Merlin's loss.

"Less and less so the more I follow you," Merlin shot back, going for a burger.

Oh, no, Arthur wasn't going to cajole for Merlin's attention like some--

Well, Francine.

"I wouldn't let you get poisoned," he offered, dryly. "That'd be a waste of a quarter-way decent manservant."

Merlin waved a cheeseburger at him, not rising to that one. "I like these better. You ought to try it."

Rise to what? It was a compliment! Sort of. For Arthur's standards.

"I've had one of those before," he said, "Chad brought it up to the room. Not bad."

Because really, the entire universe lived to bend to Arthur's whims.

However he survived was a mystery to Merlin sometimes. "Have you tried pizza yet? It's wonderful."

"No," Arthur said, shooting the spread another idle glance. "Which one's that?"

"Not here, but it's one of the good things they have. It's not raw for one."

"Oh, that," Arthur said. Hey, look, his focus was back on Merlin. "I'm still a bit fuzzy on how you managed to walk into that one."

Like Merlin even noticed. There were cheeseburgers. "They said it was good and I was willing to try one."

Arthur was leaning over to get one of those cheeseburgers now, yes. "That's like the time Hannibal gave me a list of drinks to try," he said, tossing it back on his plate, "It's best to make sure."

Like he had. There were some things man wasn't meant to drink.

"And we all know how well that ended."

"It ended perfectly well," Arthur argued. If by 'perfectly well' you meant gifting him with a strange urge to show up at Merlin's doorstep and readjust his clothes.

Arthur was just going to assume that they were talking about the second time, instead, when he'd wisely asked the man tending the bar exactly what Hannibal had suggested for a drink. And hadn't drunk any of it.

Let it never be said that he didn't learn.

"Mmhmm." He believed that. Truly. Snagging a cookie he wasn't fond of, Merlin added it to his own plate. Arthur would steal it later and feel very smug.

Arthur always felt very smug. He tossed on another cheeseburger - they were a bit wee - and lifted an eyebrow. "They haven't been feeding you anything else raw, have they?"

Arthur actually felt the cheeseburgers were a little bland.
