The Deck, early evening Thursday

Dinah had hamburgers and hot dogs, some veggie platters and chips and dip, soft drinks and cake. Oh, and ice cream in the fridge inside for later.

Happy birthday, Will Shakespeare! Oh, and her too.

[very limited OCD about to go up!, for early justice and time zones; set before Dress Rehearsal/Previews.

Anyone welcome, even if you don't know her! I'm sticking to Dinah's thread to keep it simple.]

Leto didn't step back either. "A pity. I'm sure they would suit you." Leto smiled, picking up the tone in her voice. "There are things I will have to do in the future that might go against whatever my personal tastes are. Here and now, things are different. I find that enjoyable." And frustrating, but there was no need to mention that.

"Oh," Triela nodded in seeming understanding. "That's not destiny, that's just life." She wasn't all that big a fan either.

This close she couldn't help notice his eyes. Not that she hadn't noticed before, but the proximity provided a new sort of curiosity. "You're eyes are exceptionally blue," she pointed out. Her own were blue as well, but a more common sort of it.

That made him laugh. Most people noticed that a lot sooner. "Eyes of Ibad, the sign of spice addiction," he said. "I'm Fremen. Spice is in everything around us and we cannot avoid it."

Eye color wasn't generally all that important in Triela's line of work, except perhaps as a way of identifying people.

"Drugs?" Triela asked, curiosity piqued. She wasn't being critical. Perhaps they were more similar than she might have guessed.

"Yes," Leto replied. "Does that surprise you?"

She considered her answer for a moment before nodding slightly. "Most people around here find the idea of drug addictions distasteful. You seem comfortable with it."

"My... opinions are not those of most people here," Leto replied.

"I noticed," she returned with a soft laugh.

"By the sound of it you did not choose to be addicted?"

"No, but I don't consider it a problem," he said.

"Not many people I've met understand that mentality," Triela pointed out. And if her smile widened just a bit, well, it wasn't often that someone understood.

"Perhaps not," Leto replied, offering a small smile in return. "Does that bother you?" He took a small step closer, again, testing her reaction.

Triela tried to keep from showing how uncomfortable other people in her personal space makes her, and she was mostly successful. The only sign, if someone were paying attention, was the creak of her leather gloves as her hands clenched tightly.

"Not really," she answered, keeping her voice carefully under control. "Though it is sometimes frustrating."

He laughed. "Frustrating? Yes, I know. How do you deal with frustration?" He noticed the gloves creaking; it was hard to hide something like that from someone with Bene Gesserit training. He did not move away.

"Mostly I just set it aside until I get a mission." She grinned, her body relaxing slightly despite his proximity at the thought of action. "Missions are great places to take out your frustration."

Re: FOOD.

[personal profile] future_sandworm 2009-04-27 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"It depends on the mission, I assume," Leto replied, noticing her reaction. "What kind do you prefer?"

Re: FOOD.

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-04-27 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"The ones that don't involve too much waiting around." Triela shook her head. "It's not that I can't wait if I have to. It's just not very interesting."

"You seem to prefer action," Leto noted. "What else do you take an interest in apart from your missions?"

Re: FOOD.

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-04-28 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm still figuring that out," she shrugged easily. "Being away from the Agency," away from Hilshire, "for so long has been somewhat disorienting."

"You ask that like it's an easy thing to know." Triela raised an eyebrow. "Is it?"

"It's harder than most people think," he replied. "But you seem determined."

Re: FOOD.

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-04-28 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Triela snorted in genuine amusement at that. "Determine? I suppose that's one way to describe me."

"No," she flashed a grin. "Determined is just fine."
