There was a huge pile of stuff on the bed in alcove A1, because with a day free of classes, Francine had figured she might as well schlep her things over at a leisurely pace.

You know what wasn't in the huge pile of stuff on the bed in alcove A1? The marshmallows. Or the Hershey bars. Or the graham crackers.

Or Francine, because she was out by the campfire trying to get it started. Putting away her huge pile of stuff could wait. There were s'mores to be gobbled made.

"Guys," Priestly said very seriously. "Are supposed to wear pants."

Then he rolled his eyes.

"Were they a girl or a boy?"

"Girl. From 'Bad Ass'. I'm thinking some alternate world."

"Then why would she concern herself with what a boy-- wait, she's from where?"

"Bad Ass? She said it was near some other town, but that name didn't stick with me as well."

"Must be interesting, at least."

"Either that, or the name's just really ironic."

"Maybe it's something to do with a Donkey?"

He was reaching here.

"Maybe. But that wouldn't be as much fun."

"So... s'mores?"

It seemed a good subject.

"S'mores. You know . . . I'm not sure I've ever had a s'more."

Wow. He was usually the one who hadn't had something in their entire life. This was almost surreal.

"Do you know the basic concept?"

"Of course, dude. Just, bonfires on the beach back home usually involved a little more alcohol and a little less sugar."

"Ahh."

Though he had no idea what Priestly was talking about and it was reasonably easy to tell.

"Well, then, grab a marshmallow. They're worth the effort, I promise."

"Thanks. There some kind of trick to doing this, or do people just make it up as they go along?"

"If you want a good even roast, hold it out of the flames, just above, and turn it slowly. If you just want to toast the thing, stick it in the flames and blow it out."

He preferred the first, Amber preferred the second.

"So basically, it's a battle between patience and impetuousness."

He nodded.

"Though if you char it, there's the chance that trying to wave it out will send molten sugar flying through the air."

He just wants Priestly informed. It's only fair.

"So they have potential as a weapon, too."

"Or more than likely, self-injury device."

"Pretty much all weapons have that potential, yeah."

"Yes, but most don't involve waving it back and forth. The problem with that is that it can fly off on the back or on the forth."

"Nah, see I figure it's like lacrosse, only more exciting."
