Franklin Delano Roosevelt Campfire, Monday Evening

There was a proper firepit! Of course this meant Merlin was outdoors, getting the fire going. Yes, even doing it the normal way.

Because he was simply far too excited for things that made sense again! If only a little bit.

Not that he wasn't fond of indoor plumbing, of course...

"Come on then," Merlin grumbled, blowing on the tiny, tiny embers he'd somehow--against all odds--had encouraged to spark to life.

"Turtle offered me matches," Merlin said, even thought he was completely above that. He could make a fire just fine without!

"But you're sticking with the Camelot method?" Tony asked. "Afraid you'll forget how?"

"Afraid I can't do it without magic anymore."

Tony nodded, understanding. "Taking any interesting classes?"

"The one on culture shock," Merlin said. "So that ought to help when you all say things I don't understand quite so well."

"Sounds useful," Tony smiled. "Though you can totally ask me stuff, if you want."

"I will when that class manages to confuse me as well, " Merlin promised dutifully. "And also the one about magic on the run. It looks to be about right for most of what I do already."

"I'm in that class too!" Tony smiled. "I've had the teacher before. She's pretty good."

"Great! We can muddle through it all together."

"Awesome," Tony said. "Study buddies."

"Study buddies," Merlin repeated, just to make sure he had it right. "Yes, that!"

He nodded toward the fire after a moment. "Did you want to try?"

Tony shook his head. "Not when there's people around." Not when he couldn't control it. "Or do you mean with sticks?"

"I meant... you know." The other way. "But we can practice that away from people later."

"Yeah, that's probably safer," Tony said.

"Speaking of that..." Merlin glanced around. "Arthur asked me to look into organizing people like us. For our own sort of defense group."

"Sounds like a good idea," Tony said. "I guess he's getting used to this stuff?"

"I hope so. Do you think we could? You and me together?"

"We? You want me to help?" Tony asked.

Merlin paused, looking up at him suddenly. "...do you want to?"

"Sure. If you want me to," Tony said.

"I can't think of anyone else who I'd want with me on this," Merlin replied, shuffling his feet a bit.

"Yeah?" Tony grinned. "Cool. Okay. So how do we do this?"

"I--" Merlin made a face. "I have no idea."

Tony picked up a stick and drew random circles in the dirt near his feet. "Okay," he said, after a moment. "I guess we should find out who we have. We could get a list together tomorrow, at the reserve thing."

"How will we know with the new people?" Merlin asked, frowning a bit at that. "That spell you have on your laptop... can we put it on something else?"
