Franklin Delano Roosevelt Campfire, Monday Evening

There was a proper firepit! Of course this meant Merlin was outdoors, getting the fire going. Yes, even doing it the normal way.

Because he was simply far too excited for things that made sense again! If only a little bit.

Not that he wasn't fond of indoor plumbing, of course...

"Come on then," Merlin grumbled, blowing on the tiny, tiny embers he'd somehow--against all odds--had encouraged to spark to life.

"Well, there's not a U.S.," Jack said. "It's still British and French and Spanish colonies along the coasts." He thought. "Is Quebec a place for you?"

"Yeah, it's part of Canada," Tony said. "You have a Quebec?"

"It's French," Jack said, as if that actually explained something. "Tony, does your world have magic?"

"French-Canadian, where I'm from," Tony said. "Yeah, it does. Does yours?"

"It does," Jack confirmed. "I mention it because it's the reason the colonies are still small for us -- the natives used magic against Europeans, and won."

"Magic's not common back home," Tony said. "Most people don't believe in it any more."

"And that's another difference in our worlds," Jack noted. "Many people don't like magic, but we've little choice but to believe in it. There are schools to train sorcerers all through Europe."

"There's a teacher here who's from a world like that," Tony said. "She said all the sorcerers have to get tattooed, too."

"That would be DCI Garrett, unless there's another," Jack said. "She's from my world. I knew of her, but I met her at the picnic. Have you been in her classes?"

"Yeah, I've taken a couple of magic classes with her," Tony said. "I'm kind of a wizard."

"It would seem to me," Jack said, "that you either are one or you aren't. So you can do magic?"

Tony nodded. "I'm learning," he explained.
