Arthur'd left a message to all about the change in location for today's drill, last week. He was in something of a better mood, although yesterday's spar with Lady Elspeth had knocked him back down to a normal grouch. At least he no longer looked like he was contemplating murdering his co-conspirator.

He didn't start speaking until he was fairly sure they'd gotten their haul of people for the day. "Today, we begin to work with our terrain," he announced, "And each other. You all have vastly different skills and powers at your disposal; now's the time to share them. You'll be venturing out to different defensible locations, spread over the seaside to your right," he nodded, "the Rocky Bits at your left," another nod, "And the ground you're standing on. Pick one, and set up a plan to make it defensible."

After a quick glance at Arthur, to make sure he had finished, Leto continued: "And after having made your own strategy for defense, some research will help you develop it. Find examples from various points in history of successfull defense of a geographic location similar to the one you chose and write a short report on your own conclusions."

Tony was there with his laptop case slung over one shoulder. He wasn't sure exactly how he and Merlin were going to organize the magic-users (the phrase "herding cats" had occurred to him) but he was willing to give it a shot.

They certainly would be very much like cats. "Any ideas so far?" Merlin asked, looking at the people there.

"Nothing yet," Tony said. "Maybe once we know who's interested we'll have a better idea what to do. Until then, I say we fake it."

"Pretend everyone is on board?"

"Pretend we know what the hell we're doing."

"We can just nod a lot and look mysterious," Merlin suggested. He knew these things.

"Good!" Tony pointed at him. "Good plan. And add in some smiling, but not too much."

"I think we could do this without a hitch if it's that easy."

"I don't think it will be," Tony said. "But people'll lose confidence in us if they know how clueless we are."

Right.

Crap.

"Perhaps the signs would help and give us practice with being certain about this."

"Sure," Tony said. "Nothing says confidence like posterboard." Okay, he was being a little facetious.

Merlin shot him a look. "We could always add some glitter if you think it would help."

"Nah," Tony said. "Looks too desperate."

"Something tasteful then? Bright colors?"

"Bright colours are totally acceptable," Tony said.

"I suggest red," Merlin said, being completely predictable in his color choice.
