The Rocky Bits, Tuesday Afternoon

Arthur'd left a message to all about the change in location for today's drill, last week. He was in something of a better mood, although yesterday's spar with Lady Elspeth had knocked him back down to a normal grouch. At least he no longer looked like he was contemplating murdering his co-conspirator.

He didn't start speaking until he was fairly sure they'd gotten their haul of people for the day. "Today, we begin to work with our terrain," he announced, "And each other. You all have vastly different skills and powers at your disposal; now's the time to share them. You'll be venturing out to different defensible locations, spread over the seaside to your right," he nodded, "the Rocky Bits at your left," another nod, "And the ground you're standing on. Pick one, and set up a plan to make it defensible."

After a quick glance at Arthur, to make sure he had finished, Leto continued: "And after having made your own strategy for defense, some research will help you develop it. Find examples from various points in history of successfull defense of a geographic location similar to the one you chose and write a short report on your own conclusions."

[Wait for OCD! OCD is up!]

After the flight workshop, which hadn't been bad, just... an entirely new experience, it was a relief to be on more familiar ground. Literally speaking. Firekeeper and Blind Seer looked around curiously to see if any new faces would show up today.

Fiona came straight from work, though she'd been smart enough to bring a change of shoes; her boots would ensure she didn't twist an ankle in this mess.

But... share her power? She didn't mingle so much as stay back as she tried to consider how to put it to others.

Leto gave Fiona a smile and a brief nod, pleased to see that she had joined them.

She looked up as she felt eyes on her and gave Leto a smile back.

"Welcome," Leto said. "I was hoping some of the new students would show up. I should have mentioned it on Sunday."

His enthusiasm for the whole thing might have faded somewhat lately, but he wasn't going to let that show.

"Dinah and Arthur both mentioned it to me," and yes, she threw the latter a half-hearted Look before turning back to Leto.

"It's nice to see you, though. I've never done anything quite like this. Well, not planning for it, anyway."

Leto noted that look, but he wasn't going to ask. Instead he grinned. "Planning your actions is essential, even if events don't follow your plans. What experience do you have?"

Ben was in a fantastic mood after a morning spent flying podracers. He listened to the instructions carefully, already running through the various scenarios he'd come up with when he'd first arrived on the island.

Ben was a pretty paranoid fourteen year old.

Tahiri was in a pretty good mood herself after her flight workshop, with the extra sense of accomplishment that came from finishing off the gaderffii sticks she'd been building for herself and Dinah.

Rocky bits, yes, but . . . what, you thought she'd put on shoes for this?

Shut up. There's practically a quota for the narrative mentions.

Dinah's day off from classes was more a day on for everything else, but since that was the way she liked it, she was humming. "Hey, Tahiri. Yay defense?"

"Yes and no," Tahiri replied, falling into the countermoves of the pantomime. "I'll have to show you how to use it; it works a little differently than a staff. I sort of modified the standard design, too."

Ino still had her crown of flowers on her head, and she didn't care how much of a dork that made her. This was pretty dorky too, if you asked her.

She hummed and bounced idly.

"Have you been a part of this long? The reserves, I mean."

Tony was there with his laptop case slung over one shoulder. He wasn't sure exactly how he and Merlin were going to organize the magic-users (the phrase "herding cats" had occurred to him) but he was willing to give it a shot.

Gabrielle had handwavily, la heard from Dinah about this whole reserve thing, so after tryouts at the theater she headed up toward the Rocky Bits.

That look on her face? Yeah, that could be described as absolute eager glee.
