LBJ Campfire, Monday Evening

Chuck didn't know who started the campfire outside his cabin but he was glad that someone did. He was capable of working a lighter but that whole Boy Scout-y wood and newspaper in the optimal fire starting position thing was lost on him. So when people did the hard stuff for him he was appreciative. Silently appreciative. He wasn't about to be thanking people out loud.

Now he was sitting back against a log with a joint in his hand and was debating going back inside the cabin to grab marshmallows. Maybe after the munchies set in.

"And I'm just not a fan of that frame of mind," he said, shrugging.

"Suit yourself," Chuck said, shrugging back. "It's your funeral."

"Hey, I didn't say I was going to pursue it," Hannibal pointed out. "Just that I didn't like it. I know when to pick my battles."

"Good thing," Chuck said, taking a hit of his joint. "Defending you guys is tough work."

Okay so he only had defended Sam but still. It was tough.

"Like you defend me," he said and snickered. "I don't believe that for a minute."

"Okay, maybe I didn't defend you," Chuck allowed. "But that's only because I think you could handle it should Blair decide to destroy you."

And he thought it would be funny to watch too.

"She told me I'm not part of her inner circle or something," he said, sighing dramatically. "Almost made me wanna throw myself into the ocean in my depression."

"You're joking but there are some girls back in New York who would actually do that if they got thrown out of her circle," Chuck said. He mock pouted. "It's sad, really."

"I can believe it," he said, shrugging a shoulder. "If Angela's okay there, then I'm fine being ostracized and glared at. I can take it. Though, her threats are pretty freaking scary."

"Her threats are nothing compared to what she actually does," Chuck said. He tilted his head as he thought about it. "It's almost an art form."

"I'm not planning on crossing her," he promised. "I've had girls after me, it's not fun."

"It can be fun if you know what you're doing," Chuck said. He, of course, knew what he was doing. "You just aren't bitch enough to handle it. So few are."

"Well, damn my non bitchiness," Hannibal said, snapping sadly. "Too bad I'm not more Bass like."

"Everyone wishes they were more Bass like," Chuck said confidently. "Unless you're already a Bass, of course."

"Can one become a Bass or does one have to be born into it?" Hannibal wondered.

"I think it works best when you're born into it," Chuck said. "But I think Eric and Serena automatically got a bit cooler when they were inducted into the family."

"And I'm sure everyone aspires to be a Bass," he said. "Even if they fall short."
